Jeph Working The Long Game?
SpanielBear:
Nah, the real long game comes to fruition in 2000 strips time, when after a painful breakup with Claire, Marten turns to Pintsize for some nice, cheerful, porn.
(Joke. Seriously a joke. I neither expect nor want any of this to happen)
BenRG:
Actually, no, I don't think that Jeph planned Faybles that long in advance. In fact, I'll bet that when Jeph decided to tease his readers with this stuff, he didn't even remember that strip. He's always forgetting stuff that he's done before and having to check his own archives.
SomeCanadianWeirdo:
I probably should have called this "Pintsize The Prophet."

--- Quote from: Gyrre on 10 Feb 2018, 19:27 ---If that's his end goal, then I commend him greatly. Far too often to characters that would sooner kill each other than even kiss get paired together in fics with hardly, if even, any effort to justify it. *glares at Arcee-x-Airachnid and Cloud-x-Sephiroth shippers/ficcers*

As far as I know, every decent shippers would declare that dynamic in this pairs are ALREADY built on suppressed attraction, so you just need to open their eyes!

The two examples I gave, or the Fay-Bubbles ship?
If the former, Sephiroth is an omnicidal maniac, and Airachnid has done nothing but torture Arcee. If there's any attraction in there, it's 100% one-sided and would result in an abusive relationship at best.
If Faye-Bubbles, that's exactly what I explained Jeph to potentially be demonstrating. It's not enough for a writer to just say that suppressed attraction (a.k.a. "action movie romance"), a good writer shows it through their actions and words.
JoeCovenant:
My take on the last strip in the recent Faye/Bubbles arc is this:
After all the comments about Faye being oblivious to:
1 - Bubbles attraction to her
2 - (What some people seem to think) Faye's own submerged attraction to Bubbles.
Faye is left alone with her thoughts for the first time that day.
She dwells on all of the things that she had heard, been said to her and probably gave to thought to.
But now her subconscious is playing it all back... and Faye is recognising the comments for what they are.
Her sister, her sister's partner and even Bubbles, making small insinuations that there may be a mutual attraction.
And Faye... dismisses ALL of it.
Now, she may well be wrong about thinking "Bubbles doesn't have a thing for me!"
But that little strip also encompasses Faye's OWN feelings about the whole thing... and as I said, she dismisses it.
Faye may not know what Bubbles thinks, but we now know that she isn't *oblivious* of her own feelings.
So, now that we've seen her work through these thoughts and dismiss them... then surely this *ship* has sailed?
