2020 is one whole cooked turkey of a year!
(click to show/hide)I'm on tor-browser right now, and Marf's avatar (the URL being http://mmhak3fquhmd3fnaplgvgcq5yxefhhv3h53m6p6ckiblau675f6milyd.onion/QC/forums/userphoto.png) isn't loading for me. But it does when I right-click and choose "View Image".
--- Quote from: Potato Farmer on 25 Nov 2020, 17:01 ---So someone is equating an adamant desire to keep using a problematic domain to host their avatar picture, which is entirely voluntary, with being either crippled or physically handicapped/disadvantaged.
--- End quote ---
It's obviously a tactless analogy, but I don't think it's too far of a stretch. You don't have to talk, for example - that's voluntary. (I've had periods when I wouldn't talk for weeks, and there are historical examples like taking a "vow of silence".) But when someone has a speech disorder, we tend to accommodate them, because everyone else can talk fine, that makes it difficult for a person with a speech disorder to enjoy their life at the same level. (To bring it back to Marf's avatar, using an external avatar might let it be chosen randomly from a set of files, like pwhodges used to have. I didn't see this type of feature in the profile settings.) It's similar with physical disabilities (I don't mean the part about it being voluntary) but I think a more fitting - and less inflammatory - analogy would be unusual diction, that makes it hard for others to understand what the person is trying to say. I assume that what Marf is trying to say, is that he has more difficulties using the other accomodations - using a different host, uploading the avatar - than what he has now. - Maybe I'm giving him too much benefit of the doubt.

Oh right, it's US Turkey day tomorrow.

Farideh:
Being on the Southern Hemisphere, Turkey Day tends to make me go 'meh'. Then again, I am kinda 'forced' to celebrate it since my mother's partner is American, so they put on a meal every year.
Oenone:
Meals are nice. I hope it’s a good one.
Farideh:
It usually is, my mother is a good cook 😊 She does tend to get a bit passive-agressive about how much work it is, and how much time she spent in the kitchen, and that it takes a day to do the cleanup... So this year we put our foot down and divvied up the tasks 😉
