Magniras:
Huh. Never would've pegged Jeph for a Hololive fan.

BenRG:
Two things struck me about this strip but only re-reading. Firstly, in panel 1, the position of Clinton and Willow's hands makes it possible to make the interpretation that they were sort-of-unconsciously about to hold hands. Now, I don't think that's the case but it does suggest that my subconscious is a Clintillow shipper. Given that this is literally only the third strip in which the two characters have directly interacted, it might mean that I have a problem here.

Secondly, yeah, I'm guessing that the two girls and the duck apparently wearing a bandanna are a reference to either another webcomic or a really obscure art-house animé. I really don't need to know more apart from that.

I think, that, if nothing else, Clinton has met a woman who is as socially awkward as he is. Really, Willow's behaviour reflects his own behaviour when he was on a date with Emily. She's desperately trying to fill the air of her awkwardness and nervousness with words. Any words, no matter how inane it seems. I'm wondering if her anger is panel 4 is to cover over: "Ohmigod, he's seen through me! He knows I'm a phony who doesn't really know anything!"

So, they're going to Union Robotics? I wonder why? I mean Clinton is a former customer and knows Faye and Bubbles personally through the vector of all of them knowing Claire but they're hardly what I would expect to be casual social connections. If Jeph plans to have Bubbles preach to Clinton about accepting your inner truth or something, I might skip the week. I really don't like it when he has his characters deliver Author Tracts, especially characters that I like. However, optimistically, Faye will open the week by pointing at Willow and essentially yelling: "Hey, Nerd! Is that your new girlfriend?" and basically everything spirals outwards into ever greater chaos from there on.

Penquin47:
Clinton says why he's going to Union Robotics.  He wants to talk to Sam (or, if she's not there, Faye and Bubbles) about sprays and how that fits with what he's studying at college.  Willow's going because she's tagging along with Clinton.

Hopefully Clinton will be more sensitive about "Hi I am an academic and I am here to learn about an anthropological* phenomenon" than Amanda's girlfriend (Evie?) was with Bubs.  He's come a long way from the awkward dork who showed up to talk to Marten about his relationship with Pintsize and went Creepy Fanboy on Hannelore.

*or whatever the AI version of anthropology should be called

Akima:
Very sassy, Clinton.

--- Quote from: Castlerook on 28 Jan 2021, 20:38 ---No, seriously though, I would imagine that cosmetic surgeons would be under the same ethics as other surgeons. For example, in many jurisdictions, removing a healthy limb is considered illegal despite informed consent from the patient. Its why many surgeons refuse to entertain the concept of cosmetic amputation.
--- End quote ---
I'm not sure whether it can be described as cosmetic, but amputation of healthy limbs has been performed in the UK, for example, without apparent legal consequences. I suspect that many surgeons might be reluctant to deal with issues of such a serious psychological nature.
--- Quote ---If there is no need to remove a healthy limb, there's no ethical reason to do so.

"Need" is a slippery notion. The surgical procedures involved in gender reassignment (or confirmation, if you prefer) routinely involve removal of healthy body parts, for example, and I would not describe that as unethical. The poor performance, relative to natural limbs, of our present state of the art in prosthetics is another factor. The ethics of limb replacement could be regarded differently if prosthetics of superior performance were developed as in science fiction like Ghost in the Shell.
