Yeah, I didn't read it as "woe is me" at all. Shit just sometimes sucks, and things that you do for a living are not just things you can always immediately drop when shit sucks.

Perfectly Reasonable:
May's top has gone from a mustard color (4533) to a grating magenta recently. Jeph chooses his colors very carefully so this must mean something.
