Define a 'traditional ballad.' Does it just have to have 'Ballad of' in it? Because that could include both McFly and Bloodhound Gang.

I admit I don't have a vast knowledge of traditional ballads, and the original author of this may be known (it is, however, very old), but "The Blackbird" is a great song.

Oh man, this is why people should keep me away from Brobdingnagian Bards albums when I'm pissed.

And yeah, Whisky in the Jar actually is 'trad' I believe. As is Scarborough Faire.

Does http://www.chemikal.co.uk/media/downloads/1119959866_01.mp3" target="_blank">Parcel of Rogues count?  If so, I vote for that.

No kidding. They are the highlight of my life.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Jean Ritchie is like 63 and kicks a lot of ass in the traditional ballad department. But its all Appalachian Mountain stuff. So its derivative of old Irish, English and Scottish balladry. Typically they're called Child Ballads.

"Lord thomas and Fair Elender" is my favorite ballad.
"Uncle Frog Went out for a Ride" is so awesome its not even funny.
"Hangman" is also great.

Oh and the Bards are silly, very silly.
