I might have a look at some point, but it does depend on your definition of a 'serious strip', and do you count 'jokes from Pintsize' as well?

All evil comes from the way Claire announced to her mother she had a job. The whole terse "by the way I got a job" thing conditionned everything that came after. If she had announced it by making a complete statement, like "I got a job, but it's not yet what I want and I'm still looking for the job of my dreams. But at least it pays the bills", her mother's reaction would have bean completely different and the drama would have been avoided.
