I've never really been a fan of using a fixed starting word. I pick a new* one every day. Keeps thing fun.

* Not to the extent of maintaining a list of used starting words to guarantee uniqueness. I just pop in whatever starting word strikes my fancy that day.

My starting word is a non-optimized joke word, but still seem to do pretty well with it.
