Emmett Bennett.
Emmett Bennett.
Nope, no matter how many times I say it, it still doesn't sound right.
More to the point, it sounds like just another reason for some ass in school to pick on Emmett - "The nerdy kid with the stupid name hur hur hur..."
Why do people play games with their kids' names like this anyway? I knew a couple who named their kids Nadia and Aidan. If they'd had another girl, they were going to name her Diana...

Considering Emmett's an enby, it's quite possible that this isn't the name that their parents chose.
--- Quote from: flondrix on 07 Jun 2022, 05:40 ---Also a shame that cereals that are fundamentally based on sweetness, like Peanut Butter Crunch, are not made in an artificially sweetened version. We might have fewer diabetics if artificial sweeteners could become the default.

It wouldn't exactly be universally great if artificial sweeteners became the default...

You only tried it 3 times. Try it a fourth time, that will do the trick ! :-D

Thanks for the explanation !

I knew a couple who had named their son Rowan. Which I thought was a girl's name for some reason, but whatever.
Later, they were expecting another kid and tests showed it would also be a boy, and they were discussing possible names. I feigned surprise and said, "You mean, you're not going to name him--" and the father angrily finished the sentence for me, "NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO NAME OUR SONS ROWAN AND MARTIN!"
(If you don't get that joke, congratulations you're not an old fart.)
--- End quote ---
Wait, waht ? Martin is a beautiful name ?
Since I'm old but not from the USA I assume its something local to the USA.
--- Quote from: flondrix on 07 Jun 2022, 05:36 ---You do know that the characters named "Rowan and Martin" in Buck Godot were referencing a TV comedy duo from the early 70's, right?

No, but thanks for the explanation.

So, like Doctor Oz?
--- End quote ---
Oh, don't be like that. Mehmet Oz does have a medical doctorate. He uses it for evil, but he DID earn one.
As for Emmet's name... Is is possible that their last name isn't the same as Becky's?
Also: Given this conversation, I suspect that even IF Sam's dad felt that Emmett was a bad influence, Becky here would ask that he allow it, since Sam is a Good Influence on Emmett.
love cute things:
Emmett needs a secret identity to become a cute sidekick to SKULLMASTER, MASTER OF SKULLS!

Perhaps, but having HFCS as the fundamental basis of American food is provably not universally great. And no I am not ragging on HFCS specifically, it's just the form of sugar that is subsidized to the point of being cheaper than any other ingredient you can put in food. If we replaced all the HFCS with "all natural unprocessed organically grown cane juice" and still sweetened the $#|+ out of everything, it would be equally bad.
I posit that lots and lots of sucrose is worse for people than the tiny amount of sucralose that could replace it. (Or one of the older sweeteners that were banned for bogus reasons.) Prove me wrong.
I'm not proposing abolishing sugar entirely. It's just that instead of having a tiny diabetic section with a lousy selection of unsugared foods (which the supermarkets in my area got rid of anyway), we could remove sugar from the foods that kids grow up eating and have a tiny "want to become diabetic" section with breakfast cereals that are mostly sugar, canned soups that are mostly HFCS, etc. for those determined to pursue that lifestyle.
BTW, I have actually seen food labeled as "contains no sugar" that was sweetened with "all natural unprocessed organically grown cane juice" instead. In a so called "health" food store. If we had any real health food stores--as in "I have a list from my doctor..."--they would sell sugar free alternatives to the sugared foods in the regular food stores.
