I have never had Tim Hortons, so I can't comment on that. Dunkin' Donuts made its way to Europe though, so I've had those.

I'm pretty sure it's the case anywhere that gets cold weather. I don't want salt tracked all over the wood floors in my apartment.

Much of the world sees having shoes on inside as generally gross, not just cold places.
