The Forced Listening Thread
Kai:
Okay, guys, one of you has to take it. Smegma are one of my favorite bands ever and you need to do it. ANY OF YOU
Praeserpium Machinarum:
I was actually going to do Skullflower but I forgot, Skullflower is pop-rock compared to this one.
Smegma - Thru The Warty Evening
Pure madness. All sorts of weird drone-like noodling in the bagground while the lead singer recitates, shall we say, unorthodox poetry. Music'n'poetry(while totally unlike say Soul Coughing) from the abyss of psychedelica is what this song(or should I say piece) sounds like to me. It is quite improvisational as far as I can tell and while not lacking cohesion, it lacks normal song structure. The bass pounds monotonously with drums joining in, the clanky guitar screeches and squeals never really playing any melody. The vocals are unremarkably spoken word-like, though they have some manical glee(specifically around "her slimy diatribe" and "riding with one hand then let one go". For me this is the kind of stuff that has novelty and indeed entertainment but not something I would listen to incessantly.
However I enjoyed the experience so it gets a 7/10.
Now as promised the Bark Psychosis track. This is from their debut Hex which was released in 1994.
Bark Psychosis - Pendulum Man
KharBevNor:
Bark Psychosis - Pendulum Man
Very subdued, post-rock sort of opening, one note sort of oscillating in its own chorus effect for a bit, then slowly swelling synth strings as we get in around the one minute mark. The guitar line slowly changing as the sound slowly builds up. Very, very nice so far. Then another little swell of sound on the keys, and the guitar, if that's what it is, changing to become like a clock tick-tocking. Complexity and layers slowly building up...and so it goes on really. Very peaceful, very ambient. I quite like it. 8/10
Now, I tried to post this before, but it didn't work. Here's hoping it will this time. This track is just beautiful:
Current 93 - Horsey [Live at the Union Chapel]
Please listen to the whole thing without skipping.
Der Golem:
Okay.
To whomever may read this;
Download that song. Listen. Be completely blown away. Repeat.
I have nothing else to say about it, 9.5/10.
I'll upload something in a bit.
KharBevNor:
I know. It is so intense.
"She's reading a book...
She finished it years ago.
She's tearing up paper: she's tearing up life!
But she only starts thinking,
When her blood. Is. BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWNNNN!"
