The Last Show You Saw

blindsuperhero:
Idlewild at Leeds Uni (The Kaiser Chiefs were playing Leeds Met, just down the road, and given they're from Leeds and all, Idlewild was impressively well attended)

Only the second time I've seen them, the last was supporting R.E.M. in Manchester (which I witnessed from about half a mile away from the stage), I could have gone to see them in Leicester a while ago but Muse with Hundred Reasons were playing the same night.

Anyway, the sound in the Refectory is shite, but the band more than made up for it with energy and just playing really well, they played a lot of their older songs, which is always good, plus a Neil Young cover ("Looking For A Love"), it's his birthday today or something. Also, I'm feeling a lot better about the standard of their new album, I've decided at least half of it is very good, so that made hearing the new songs a lot more bearable. They did play a wide selection of songs from all their albums, unlike a lot of bands who have a new album out. And you still can't understand a word Roddy says :)

mikemike:
Brendan Benson and Hal last night at the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms. Brendan's got such a way with a tune and I was surprised he could make the songs sound so good without a thick layer of production like on the albums. It really annoys me when he's referred to simply as Jack White's mate.

enon:
The Weakerthans and The Constantines played last night. They were really awesome.

cabrioletlover:
The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers at The Duke Coffee House.

AND!! I just got my tickets for DMB. woot woot. ;)

Benn London:
Pure Evil Trio were a traditional three piece metal act not fazed by the hardcore stance of the bands to come and crowd awaiting. Nice clean sounds with harsh screaming.

The Stockholme Syndrome played after, and was definitely raising the crowds excitement levels. In my opinion these guys are amazing musicians with a great, different sound to them that equalled the highly anticipated headliners...

The Dillinger Escape Plan. Always one to put on a good show, the guys did not let anyone down. From the start it was mayhem, with half the band flying round the crowd and some hardcore scenesters doing their two-step, mosh scene down to a fine art.
The raw energy and flying guitars proved a most worthy night. And a mention must go to the bass player, Liam Wilson, turned many heads with his pink tight shirt and handlebar moustache. "When did he become an 80's pornstar?" my friend questioned me.

Overall a great night, finished properly with late night coffee, acoustic guitars at nik's, and everyone sleeping on the floor to wake much much later that day.
