Trip Hawkins

IronOxide:
Has anyone seen this?

I have never seen someone loaded with so much shit. SOme claim that he knows exactly what will happen in the market, but I see him as a GIGANTIC FUCKTARD. I strongly doubt that Microsoft will ever but Nintendo, and it will definitely not happen within the next five years. No matter how rich Microsoft may be, they will not be able to buy Nintendo. If you look at the blu-ray/HD-DVD question, you can clearly see that he has no clue what he speaks of.

Am I the only one that thinks that this person should be in my club of people not allowed to talk? Ashlee Simpson is the only one there at this point.

spazworrier:
I heard about that and I had the same reaction....well...nearly. I have a strong feeling Microsoft will (or try to) buy out all the major electronic companies. Y'know, Microsoft being the money-grabbing bastards we know and love!

So I'll Vote "Yes, eventually"

Kai:
To quote penny arcade:

"Humans have brought to my attention an interview with one Trip Hawkins, one where he claims that within five years Microsoft will own Nintendo. You can do your own research on the man and determine whether or not he is in possession of mighty powers of speculation or indeed something akin to prescience. I submit that he is not. I submit that he spends his day naked in a dunk-tank, and that from time to time a man throws a fish at him which he catches in his mouth."

and...

"As for the Nintendo thing, I mean, they're an extremely proud company. They're not going to sell to an American corporation because fucking Trip Hawkins says so. They didn't come out on top of this generation - in America or Europe, at any rate - but they're hardly destitute. They're not up to their elbows in the couch trying to scratch together some yens."

est:
i actually think that there are laws in Japan forbidding takeover of domestic companies by foreign companies.  not 100% on that, though.

Trinary:
First of all, I'd be willing to bet that Nintendo would rather go under than be bought by an American company, even if the japanese regulatory system allowed it.

Second of all, Nintendo is very, very profitable.  They have been consistently profitable, every single year (as far as I know) since the NES was released.  They were successful makers of playing cards, board games, etc for decades and decades before making video games.  They have no reason to allow anything but the most hostile of takeovers, and Microsoft would have to pay an absolute crapton of money in order to do that.

If Nintendo's next two console offerings are failures that make the Jaguar look like the PS2, then maybe in five years.  Speculating about 20 years from now is dumb and pointless.
