Musicians/bands you have an irrational hatred of
muffy:
I've tried to give it up, really, honestly I have, but then, every Wednesday morning, I find myself drawn to it in the local spar. It's like smoking, I know it's bad for me, but I ...just...can't...help...myself.
You're right. It'll be the death of me if I don't stop.
a pack of wolves:
The NME's like music journalism crack. They sent me one free a couple of christmases ago, and despite my distaste I found myself reading it from cover to cover. I poured over what Kurt Cobain's top 50 albums had been, and I never even liked Nirvana when I was a kid. I'd been clean for years and I thought it was rubbish even when I was 14, but it'll always be there under the skin, waiting for its chance to sprout again...
Johnny C:
Wif regards to the NME issue: Is it so wrong to like bands other people like?
muffy:
Not in the slightest, and I like a lot of hugely popular bands like The Strokes et al, it's just the way it's presented in that magazine - it's like 'Oh, this band is ok, but they smoke crack and have really cool hair, s you should probably buy their album' -
I think it's because the NME is for people who like to be told what they should be listening to, and can't present a band without presenting a fad to go with it.
The Heat magazine of indie, if you will.
a pack of wolves:
Yep, that pretty much sums up the NME. Also, the quality of the writing is appalling. I remember cringing at it even when I was a kid. I like very little that's popular myself, but that's just because of my personal tastes. When a band I do enjoy like The Futureheads gets huge I couldn't care less apart from the fact that it'll now cost me a lot more money to go see them.
