Bands that are cool to hate

You know, now that I think about it: emo bashing. That's been cool to do since time immemorial, although a lot of that these days is the fault of those bad bands that get called emo for some reason, so you can't really blame people.

Yeah I don't get why it's cool to bash on The Mars Volta. They're not completely pretentious. They KNOW their lyrics are more often ridiculous than not, and that's why they just keep on pushing it and getting kicks out of it. =P

Well, if someone thinks TMV are bad then they won't investigate them well enough to find out that they aren't serious about their lyrics. And I can see how people might just find their music pretentious even without taking the lyrics into account. Not something that bothers me, I think 'The Shape of Punk To Come' is a great record and that's pretentious as hell, but I can see how it would irk some people. And if it genuinely rubs them up the wrong way, then they aren't just hating it to be cool.
