You'll want at least 56k, though I've only really used it on cable/DSL.  The more people that you have talking at once, the more bandwidth you'll need.

The only problem I had with it last night was I could barely hear Muhr.  Other than that it worked VERY well.

Oh... well... at one point it gave me a sound error, but all I had to do was reboot it, change some of my settings, and it should be good to go from now on.

I much prefer teamspeak as well, but that CS:S server I posted, it has vent ant TS as far as I know.

about that server is claims it's still using 2.1.2? Are they just being retro or can I just change some settings to get in anyway?

I was playing a lot of CS : S before my computer died and teamspeak all the way, easy to use, once it's open its unobtrusive and no brainer to set up
