[joke]Just listen to LCD soundsytem's Losing my edge for all appropriate albums[/joke]
Really here are my essentials
Velvet Underground
Pavement
Sonic Youth
Mogwai
Modest Mouse
Fugazi
Built To Spill
these bands most indie kids will know. If you use them in a name dropping fashion it may lead to the indie kid trying to face you down for the INDIE cock swing. If you ask questions about such bands you may get a brutal mocking. In fact do not talk music with the indie kids.

Wait, I thought the whole point of being indie is that you listen to what you enjoy listening to... not "what every other indie kid listens to"... Am I wrong ?

How can there be Essential Indie Albums if the Essence of indie is to listen to whatever tickles your willy.

Seriously.  If someone was truly indie, their recommendations in this thread could be diametric to another, equally indie, person's.

If anyone laughs at what you listen to, they are not indie, or at least don't understand indie.

My musical taste tickles my willy....

hehe

Given that, if it weren't for me rabbiting on about them, damn near none of you would ever have heard about any of my top 10 favourite bands, can I claim to be the indiest person here, and then use my trophy as a portable urinal?

Gotta add The Dandy Warhols. And Bikini Kill. And Le Tigre. And Bjork. Well, Bjork doesn't really count. She's not really 'indie'. Then again, she's not really anything...

I sued to think I knew what indie was. No more. This forum confuses me, perhaps UK indie and US indie are wildly different, or amybe I've been misled all these years.
