happybirthdaygelatin:
I forgot what my friends look like and my friends forgot why they like me
-"old hat", harvey danger
Aphi:
As much as I've tried to get away from scremo, I still have a fetish for Thursday. So, instead of quoting every thursday song ever written, I'll just pick my fave and hope you realize I love it /all/.
" ...but tomorrow I'll be you, just pick up the phone---I'm calling from /your/ house, in /your/ room, in /your/ name, lying in /your/ bed, following /your/ dreams, I listen to /your/ voice get caught in my throat, as I sing, 'this is just a dream'..." Thursday--"Tomorrow I'll be you"
blindsuperhero:
"but tomorrow I'll be you, just pick up the phone"
That is the silliest damn line in any song ever. It's the 'just pick up the phone' bit that gets me, it has a kinda mainstream R'n'B vibe to it.
My favourite Thursday lyric is proabably
"For now we can call it 'The Book About the Basic Flaw'
Or 'The Book About the Letter A'
Or 'Any Title That a Book About a Man That No One Cares About Might Have'"
which probably doesn't count as a lyrics because it's not sung. I don't know. Thursday's lyrics sound really great in the context of the song, but they just don't seem to stand up well by themselves
KharBevNor:
This is pretty much a whole song, but screw it, it's great.
Because metal (or, well, Skyclad) can be lovey and sensitive too:
Skyclad - You Lost My Memory
Unstoppable force and immovable object,
repel one another when by chance colliding.
The Brownian-Motion within this love potion,
ensures our opinions are always dividing.
I am from Mars my dear;
you hail from Venus.
A meeting star-crossed
like the Sun and the Moon.
Destined to let this cruel world
come between us.
Our last kiss eclipsed by a shadow at noon.
A rose that is built
out of music by moonlight;
petals stained ruby with nightingale blood.
Cast down in disgust
to be crushed by a cart-wheel,
because of mere trivia misunderstood.
We quest for a grail of illusive perfection,
each hoping we'll find it some glorious day.
Yet gaze with remorse at our jaded reflection,
that looks like The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
[Chorus:]
Siamese Twins who were joined at the heart.
Love's an affliction without a known remedy.
Blunt-bladed fate
deemed to cleave us apart;
Emotional surgery pays no indemnity.
Some seek release with effete anaesthesia,
others adapt to the role of sworn enemy.
You found nepenthe in cheap, sweet amnesia;
It was far easier losing my memory.
And the nightingale sang:
"Sing love's lament
with a thorn at your breast.
Impaled by her barb;
cruel and unforgiving.
A million dead poets would gladly attest;
heart-ache's a keepsake
to remind us we're living."

--- End quote ---
They really don't, do they? You /are/ right about the pick up the phone thing, but the rest of that bit gives me shivers, I can say truthfully. As for spoken parts, another one that sounds stupid written, but amazing in a song,
Here, in this collapsed lung of a borough, there is no sunlight, the sunlight is manufactured in a windowless room, distant and incoherent, businessmen hang themselves...
