Not An Addict:
He wasn't being a dick. Good crimony, lighten up.

Speaking of skate-punk covers of '80s MOR songs, I heard the most delightfully awful version of "Everything I Do, I Do it For You" (or whatever) the other day. The Used, I think it was?

KharBevNor:
Talking of Medleys:

Candlemass - Black Sabbath Medley
Star One - Hawkwind Medley

Both in similiar styles (the Star One track even has Dave Brock on vocals) but serious rockage.

jaffy:
TV On The Radio's version of Mr. Grieves by the pixies... but only cause i am a singer

Elliott Smith's covers of  like any song ever...

Mnementh:

I know your intentions weren't as such, that's why I put the parenthesis below the facetious part of my post, your delivery could use some work, is all.

On topic:

John Anderson does a great cover of Dire Straits' When It Comes To You

A New Found Glory to be exact.  Why do I know these things?

Also, if you remember the song at the end of Dawn of the Dead, it was Richard Cheese doing a rockabilly cover of Down with the Sickness.  He does a bunch of stuff like that is very cool.
