What should i get?
Kelamin:
I'm looking to get a new machine as my old one died in the ass recently and i'm wondering if i should get an A64 3800+ or wait a little and go for a dual core A64 X2 4400+
I have all the other components worked out so this is really the only thing i have left.
The rest will be
Asus A8N-SLI deluxe
2 gig twinX corsair c2
200gig sata II Western digital
BFG 7800GTX OC PCI express
550 watt Antec Truepower2 EPS 12V
I'm making use of my old cd burner and dvd drive as well as the lianli case that i have
Any ideas anyone? Please?
McTaggart:
Well, if you have money to burn (and by the looks of the other stuff you've got in there you have) I'd wait and get the dual core. I don't know how much of a performance increase you'd get but it'd sound hardcore and get you heaps of geek points. Judging by the Corsair ram that's what you're after isn't it?
[edit] I might have been a bit harsh in my branding you there but I'll leave my comment to cause discussion.
crazybritishsteve:
I think you're right. I wouldn't buy a dual core right now. I am building a new system too, and dual core is + geek points, - not supported, + performance, - Not as good as it will be.
Future proofing requires dual core. Useability of the now does not.
torg:
+performance is not correct, crazybritishsteve.
+performance only if the software is written to use several cores, wich most of the software isnt... and i think, the money you spend on a dual core system is better spent on a single core with fast memory and a fast mainboard...
crazybritishsteve:
You are, of course, correct. It should have been +performance (possibly)
And i did say i'd go for the single core. So :P
EDIT: I am having a bad word day. You know that thing you have to do with letters to make them words. Spelling.
