I think Pavement sucks.  I don't like them at all and I think they have no talent.  Well, that's not true; I'm sure they have some talent but it is the kind which I can't appreciate.  I think Iron & Wine are ace though.

Oh, and I've now listened to Dinosaur Jr and it has far to much guitar feed back.  Maybe their 80's records are better but the 90's stuff all sounds the same and they're all noisy.  I think I will listen to more of their 80's stuff but if their 90's stuff is any indication it is a good thing Dinosaur Jr went extinct.

Oh, dear.  I've found that Thurston Moore has a dear abby type column.  He field's questions from 13 year olds about sex and they're bodies.  Indie rock has sunk to a new low.

I thought they broke up.  I thought the new band was the fog or something.

I saw a great quote with them once, just a sec... it's J. Mascis on the early days in Dinosaur Jr.

"We got banned from all the clubs for being too loud. I remember a soundman throwing a bottle at me while we were playing. He’d had enough. The volume was purely for my own amusement. I wasn’t considering the audience, because we didn’t really have one! It was kinda lonely."

You're free to like them.  There songs just all seem to sound the same to me; loud, meandering, and not well put together.  I conceed that lots of people do like that but then again lots of people like Coldplay as well.

Dinosaur jr. has too much feedback? Never ask me for a mixtape then.

I'm feeling light-headed here. This guy hates two of the VERY PILLARS OF INDIE ROCK.

Pavement is loud and meandering? PSHAH.

Too much feedback? It's called LoFi. Iron and Wine has it on his debut.

Unless of course you mean too much loud noise made by the guitar, which would lead me to believe that you think they should take the NOISE out of NOISE rock.

Meh. At least if you said Nirvana, I could understand. Even the Pixies. Dinosaur Jr. is kind of acceptable because of the albums after You're Living All Over Me, but Pavement?

WOW. Just WOW.

-------

Heh, JK. It's not THAT bad. I happen to hate Joy Division. ;D

Next time you're alone with him and he tries to get "friendly," tell him your friend Thurston Moore wants to kick his ass. And then tell him why.

Thurston Moore is way cool. Maybe if you didn't take "indie cred" so seriously all the time you could just enjoy this irreverent and amusing aside to his ridiculously good band. Sonic Youth was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and that was just last year.

Actually, your lack of a sense of humour might be the reason why you don't like Pavement either. Jeez, they played poptastic lo-fi masterpieces. What's not to like? Sure, they weren't very serious about it all, but that's one of the reasons why they're so cool.

Frankie say RELAX, dude.

Hey, maybe he just, you know, has differing tastes that take into account different values when evalutating musical worth? Maybe he's trying to express these tastes, these opinions? He's venting forth his very soul and you crush him? Man, you're like Hitler and a tyrannosaurus rex rolled into one! in a monster truck!

I swear that started off as a serious po...

Yeah, if we're being serious there's nothing wrong with not liking Pavement (as much as I find it hard to believe!), but the whole "Sonic Youth sold out" thing…

…just because Thurston did a stupid agony uncle thing for some website irks me. It was obviously not serious, so can't we all just have a laugh?

The idea of a Hitler T-rex in a monster truck, for instance, makes me chuckle heartily.

Dinohitler isn't too keen on them either to be honest. He finds them reasonable to listen to, but too much of an over-hackneyed rip-off of musicians most people had forgotten about to go crazy over.

Dinosaur Hitler amuses me, but this thread is way off topic.  Also, people's musical tastes vary, I would say that the very anathema of indie/alt rock is conformity, but that seems to be exactly what's being pushed upon Oerdin.
