lastclearchance: There is absolutely NOTHING for you to worry about.
I'm so into the happy/fun music it's not funny. Even when I'm not happy. Happy fun music is like the best kind of music.
Also, even if it was full of I duno some dark stuff I'd probably still enjoy it anyway! Just because the whole idea of someone taking the time to share something they love with me is really nice... Ya know just gets me there... *sniff*...
I can't wait to get it! Don't worry. I have terrible taste in music and I'd never piss on someone for theirs.
Oh I'm so excited. So excited like you wouldn't believe. I hope its full of summer!

Don't worry, I left a good chunk of silence between the end of the mix and the bonus *cough* track.

Hey, QHD! I got your mix! First impressions were veeery good, considering the kick-ass way you set out the track list. For everyone else, it was..

A Rope of Sand - Chapters 1-6

Chapter 1: A Truth Universally Admonished
1. Fugazi - Waiting Room
2. Autolux - Here Comes Everybody

Chapter 2: Meanwhile, Back In Blighty
3. Art Brut - Good Weekend
4. Big Strides - Suicidal
5. Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum

Chapter 3: A Sudden Kitchen Explosion
6. The Shins - Those Bold City Girls
7. The Apples In Stereo - Benefits of Lying With Your Friends
8. The Frank Boscoes - Steel Cube Sculppture
9. The Boy Least Likely To - Monsters

Chapter 4: Escape From The Rat Race
10. Grandaddy - Nebraska
11. Novillero - Aptitude

12. The Decemberists - We Both Go Down Together
13. Arcade Fire - Intervention (Live)
14. Beulah - Don't Forget To Breathe

Chapter 5: A Tale of The Unexpected
15. +/- - Suprise
16. Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek
17. Final Fantasy - The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead
18. Velts - In Suntess Seas
19. Sufjan Stevens - Concerning The UFO Sighting Near Highland, IL

Chapter 6: The Rediscovery Of Fishing
19. Bishop Allen - Things Are What You Make Of Them
20. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
21. Modest Mouse - What People Are Made Of
22. 65 Days of Static - I Swallowed Hard, Like I Understood.

Thumbs up all around for this mix! And i'm not just saying because i'm too lazy to write an in depth review for each track! ;) The first 3 chapters are great. Although, when it came to Chapter 4 and especially chapter 5, my attention started to drift away. However, the very end section snapped my wandering mind right back.

Have to say that my favourite tracks are well...all of chapters 1 (the Fugazi song was an ace way to start the mix), 2 and 3, Grandaddy, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel and +/-. I'm not too keen on Beulah - Don't Forget to Breathe and that Imogen Heap song just annoys the hell outta me.

Overall, some damn good stuff is on this mix, QHD. You've introduced me to some new bands who i fully intend to look into and that's always a good thing. :)

The only problem is that there are 22 tracks listed, but when played, the CD shows 23 so it makes the running order a bit hard to follow near the end. If you still have the mix for yourself, could you let me know what it is?

Oh yes, and Awkward Silence, your mix is made and all i've got to do are the sleeve designs. It'll be posted by next Wednesday, at the latest.

And Tinjessla, sleeves?! Man, some people are really putting an effort into this. Makes me feel kinda bad, all i did was write the track list on a sheet of paper and slipped it in.

Ah, don't worry! I do it for most of the mix tapes i make because i'm daft and like to give myself extra work. Besides, it's all about the sweet, sweet music.

@Tinjessla: Glad you liked it to one degree or another. Hope you do check out the bands you hadn't heard before. Feel free to ask if you want reccomendations for other good tracks by any of them.

Sorry it was a CDRXG and not a proper CDR - it would've been three days later if it was a CDR, so I decided to go for the RXG.

Anyhoo, the reason the playlist is hard to follow is that I am a fool and apparently think the number 19 is so important that it needs two songs. Just apply the x+1 formula to the last 4 tracks.

I cannot wait :).

I just printed the cover and the liner notes, so there should be a mix heading to Denmark as soon as I can get to a post office. Tommorrow's looking good for that.

I found mine on the counter after my parents confronted me about who do I know in Sweden. Continuing on:

High Fives, Stagedives, Good Times
arranged by kikanjuuneko (or Gabe, whichever)

1. Kid Dynamite - Cheap Shot Youth Anthem
2. Paint it Black - Athiests in Foxholes
3. Strike Anywhere - Infrared
4. Comeback Kid - Wake the Dead
5. Thursday - War All the Time
6. The Suicide File - I Hate Rock N' Roll
7. Bane - Hoods Up
8. Champion - Looking Back
9. Sick Of It All - Step Down
10. With Honor - Long Story short
11. Poison the Well - The Realist
12. Evergreen Terrace - The Smell of SUmmer
13. Converge - In Her Shadow
14. Give Up the Ghost - Love American
15. The Power and the Glory - High Winds and Heavy Seas
16. Zombie Apocalypse - Welcome to the Jungle
17. Where Eagles Dare - Good Times

Basically a mix of hardcore/punk sort of stuff. There's 3 total bands in here I've heard, Kid Dynamite, Thursday, and Poison the Well. Kid Dynamite is ace, where I'm not a big fan of either Thursday or Poison the Well. Not my bag. Zombie Apocalypse's kinda half cover of Welcome to the Jungle (Start with the same intro, but then branches off into a whole different bag of awesome) rules. I don't have any other complaints about the rest of the mix; It's all very good hardcore/punk/whatever music. And for the best track? I think ZOmbie Apocalypse takes the cake, easily.

Also, Azathoth, sorry, but I only just got your mix in on Thursday because I've been working all week (Last week of work till I'm done for the summer, woo!)

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

My little sister brought it to me, quite anxious to know why I got a package from Australia, or she would have but she's not that sharp at reading.
Anyway on to the mix!

1. Custard - Apartment

Indie rawk in australian, punchy way to kick off the mix and the one wailing like an Indian in the start just adds to the greatness. I enjoyed it, short and sweet.

2. Willcannia Mob - Down River

Oh man, these kids are just too street for me, imagine a couple aboriginal kids rapping to a beat with a didgeridoo and you can't help but shake ya booty! If I could get an album full of this, my life would be complete :)

3. Xavier Rudd - Shelter (live)

"Oh he sounds a bit like Dave Matthews…" was my first thought, but this is much more folksy and dirty, mind you I like certain DM songs so it weren't really a hindrance. Actually it's a good song and the cheers only add to the atmosphere, at this point I was thinking can this go on, the awesome I mean.

4. Hilltop Hoods - Testimonial Year

Yes it can, this is a good rap track (and I don't usually like rap) and they namedrop Public Enemy, and incidentally this sounds like it was made before gangsta turned rap into a heap of dung. Oh and Aussie accents rapping is pretty cool. Sage Francis was what I thought of when I heard this.

5. 1200 Techniques - Karma

Also rap and ditto on the goodness, sort of like Jay Z's 99 Problems without the braggadocio, it's got geetar, good rappers and most importantly it's got a message, I mean other than let's smoke some niggas.

6. Darren Hanlon - Punk's Not Dead

"Punk's not dead
She’s just gone to bed"

that's the chorus(thing), and I had to surrender, what a great song, deliciously quirky and again the aussie accents are super.

7. New Buffalo - I've Got You and You Got Me

This is a really sweet song, labtop thing, kind of like a lullaby with 30’s atmosphere, beautifully done.

8. Gotye - Out Here in the Cold

Likewise but darker, reminds me of Azure Ray only with male voice, at first the lyrics annoyed me. But I admit together with the music it works well, I get the feeling that if the vocals were a sample it would have been better, call me weird. Despite that I still think it's a good track.

9. Four Tet - She Moves She

The Aussie who weren't actually Aussie, oh well it's still good, a bit like some of the Danish dub fellas, Future 3 but it's not as quite as damaged LP sounding as them.

10. Machine Translations - She wears a Mask

We are in indie territory again; I can't really name some comparisons, not to say its generic more sort of universal if you understand.

11. The Cat Empire - Days Like These

I reckon this is what ska sounds like if it were meshed with hiphop(and a bit of reggae thrown in for good measure), so summery I almost forget it's pouring down outside :)

12. Andy Clockwise - Song for the Unemployed

I was half expecting something like Sufjan Stevens, but na, it's much more lively and festive, pretty good but not a standout track.

13. Total silence before the storm... uhh...

14. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds w/ Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow

Oh I had been trembling in me undies for this track, and what do I get? Only the only song with Kylie Minogue that could be consider good (and not stupidly catchy), I must admit I hummed the chorus a couple times. What? I am a sucker for both Nick Cave and his murder ballads, and as it is I like this song as well...ha ;)

Overall I like this mix, the flow is good as it slows kind of down in the middle (with the laptop stuff) and then picks up again. There wasn't a song I didn't like, only a couple that weren't great, quite a feat I'd say. You sort of inspired me to get some of this aussie stuff, perhaps some Darren Hanlon…

Okay, track-list and track-by-track review:

1. Trendy - Sorry

The track started out pretty rocking, which was cool. The music was good throughout. The vocals however, gave me a dangerous feeling of emooooooooo on more than one occasion. Not bad though. Just not my thing really. The music was good rock though. I felt my toe tapping on more than one occasion. The emo-ishness petered out a bit towards the end as well. Overall, a thumb tentatively sloped maybe twenty degrees from the horizontal.

2.DJ Payroll - Float on the Message

I really don't get most hip-hop. However, this gets a lot of points for inventive beats and loops, and being vastly better than pretty much everything on MTV. The lyrics seem pretty good. It's not going to change my mind, but it was actually quite pleasant to listen to, rather than a lot of rap and hip-hop, which totally gets on my nerves. Easy listening-hop? Maybe.

3.The Sharp Things - I'll Always Be Your Loser, Honey

This song starts off with a pretty nice relaxing piano intro. The vocals make me think SEVENTIES SEVENTIES SEVENTIES for some reason, which is a good thing. Saxophone joins in after a while, and the track goes on in what is frankly a rather pleasing manner. I like this track! Full thumb up. First track I really liked on the mix. Will it be the only? Time and the creeping progress of the play bar will tell.

4: Buddy & July Miller - Little Darlin

Gah! I could really like this song. I can dig country and bluegrass. The problem is the vocal (and possibly vocal/harmonica?) harmonies of the YEEEHAAAW sort. Whilst Bud and Julie (I think they both sing) aren't singing it can be a pretty damn nice track. Buddy on his own is ok, but there's something about the two together that really sets me on edge. For all of that, it gets pretty good around the middle, and the lyrics seem pretty good.

5:The K.G.B. - Captain Max

Again, emoish tinged vocals at first, but that's mainly the accent I think. Really good lyrics on the first bit from what I could hear. Ska I think? But not ott and annoying in any particular way. Again, one of those things that not really my thing though. If you see what I mean.

6:DJ BC - Snoop Dogg Battles The Pink Robots

This is the first track I really didn't like. I'd imagine this is a mash-up of Snoop Dogg and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by the Flaming Lips? This is more the sort of rap I don't like. I found myself skipping forward ten seconds or so a few times. What kinda perplexed me is it only seemed to have two lines of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

7: Marxy - We Won't Be Sold

Another sort of classic sounding rock/pop track. Echoes of late Beatles to my ear. Cheesy keyboard ftw. Not bad stuff really...the ending is kinda odd. Goes into a lot of rapidly changing samples and pieces of chip music and whatnot. Ends very suddenly. Not too keen on that.

8: The Hysterics - Mostly Untitled

Nice title. THis one continues that sort of classic pop vibe. Pretty nice easy listening kind of stuff. The kind of thing that might go in my collection along with similiar-ish types of thing I have more of an attachment for, like Marc Almond, The Kinks and Simon and Garfunkel.

9:Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone

Bad track title spelling doth not endear me! Kinda a simple song, guitar and vocals. I do not like the mans vocals, tbh. Especially when he draws out notes or goes high. Not bad guitar though...that's kinda all I really gotta say about this track. Meh. Seemed a bit...insubstantial almost.

10: Elvis Costello - I Want You

This guys vocals are way better, and he has backing musicians and everything. I like this track much more, though the intro is very quiet. This would b a definite thumbs up track, but it's so long! That can be cool, but it is very subdued and repetitive. I can stand that, but only from certain people. I dunno, who can explain their musical taste fully? A pretty nice 3 minute track. :p

11: The Velvet Underground - The Murder Mystery

Ah, the Velvet Underground. The crucial band I have only heard on adverts. Very long track, but wierd. The spoken, multi-line vocals on the initial part are very distinctive. I like the way the keyboard develops with the psychedelic guitars. Interesting picking all the things out. The last section with the hammond organ is a change, and also odd. As I said, a wierd track. Not really sure if I like it, but it was interesting. I couldn't pay it as much attention as it maybe deserved, but I'll give it another listen sometime possibly.

12: R.E.M. - These Days

We've moved forward in time! 'tis the eighties now, and everything is alright. Or at least that's what it sounds like. Rock music just before grunge got it's grimy mitts on it. Not that bad. The vocals are pretty good.

13: The National - Mr. November

Another sort of rock ballad, but much more modern sounding, and pretty damn free of emovocals. Woo! The vocals are again, a highlight. The sudden stop off in the middle breaks up the structure nicely. The lyrics sound ok too. Again, not really my thing, but this is ok. I might give it a listen now and again.

14: Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street

More old-school sounding stuff. Very subdued, some good vocals. I like this track quite a bit actually. The mix has come through again! Reminds me a bit of Dylan, after he went electric and before he found Jesus behind his fridge. I love the high guitar lines under the chorus.

15: Uncle Tupelo - New Madrid

Another country sort of song. Reminded me of a comment I once heard of emo just being country songs to bad hardcore. lol. Nah, I jest, not bad. Simple, twangy guitar lines, but they suit the song and vocals, or vice versa. Needs more harmonica. Good ender though.

So all in all, not too bad, though I doubt there's much been added to my lexicon. You seem to be a man of taste though sir, just one that is not mine. And that is all cool*.

*Mainly because I've had my caffeine fix, and I'm in a really good mood.:p

Mine is being sent tomorrow morning. I would have thought most people would have recieved theirs by now, I've taken far too long.

There's always a certain percentage of lost in posts etc.

I think I'll start the next one tomorrow morning. It seems to be a theme that different people organise it different times. Then, also, people can have a whole long weekend to sign up.

I've feel slack and awful.  I haven't sent mine yet, and I organised the damn thing!  I've been too busy trying to find a new house to live in which has taken far longer than it should have, and everything else in my life has fallen by the wayside.

EDIT: Also people, you've got to remember that some of these mixes are being sent by surface mail half way around the world.  That can take a while, be patient - just because it hasn't arrived yet doesn't mean it's time to rush off and start round 3.

Yeah, I'm afraid I haven't got yr tape yet Awkward Silence. Funny thing is that I've ordered many many things from super-tiny record lables that only ship media mail and never had a package lost. Its odd for it to happen now. I'm very patient. I think I sent McTaggart's CD surface when I meant to send it airmail (forgot to ask). So apologies if it takes ages.

"Art By Jessica", sounds like a good idea for a band!

Anyway, I was wondering how this works. I'm sort of new here, am I eligible to partake in this? I've never made mixtapes, mainly because no one around me seemed to care enough. But I've always wanted to give it a serious try. Much appreciated if I'm allowed to give it a go, no hard feelings if you think I'm not ready for it, or whatever :)

You simply have to put your name down when the next round starts. And I vote that to be next week. I am eager to have a mix at least appreciated a bit :(

Hurr hurr hurr "unblivered"!
I will listen to the mix now, "Miss" Tinjessla!
EDIT: So far so good. I took pictures of the album, because Tinjessla's beautiful artwork is all over it. I apologize for the low quality, my hands are horribly shaky.

Ah...skip to the last few seconds and theres a teeny little sound bite right at the end. It's like a very small hidden track...of the sorts.

Really? Thats odd. There is an actual bit of sound at the end but i think my incredibly dodgy cd burning software might have something to do with that fact it's missing.

Stop being impatient!  There's still a bunch of people who haven't received their mixes, and you really haven't given them much of a chance.  There were at least 2 months between the first trade and this one.  You can't rush off and start new rounds every time somebody dislikes your mix.

Eh, no problem. It just makes the anticipation better (theres a better word to put there but I forget what it is) because now I have no idea when to expect it.
