My little sister brought it to me, quite anxious to know why I got a package from Australia, or she would have but she's not that sharp at reading.
Anyway on to the mix!
1. Custard - Apartment
Indie rawk in australian, punchy way to kick off the mix and the one wailing like an Indian in the start just adds to the greatness. I enjoyed it, short and sweet.
2. Willcannia Mob - Down River
Oh man, these kids are just too street for me, imagine a couple aboriginal kids rapping to a beat with a didgeridoo and you can't help but shake ya booty! If I could get an album full of this, my life would be complete

3. Xavier Rudd - Shelter (live)
"Oh he sounds a bit like Dave Matthews…" was my first thought, but this is much more folksy and dirty, mind you I like certain DM songs so it weren't really a hindrance. Actually it's a good song and the cheers only add to the atmosphere, at this point I was thinking can this go on, the awesome I mean.
4. Hilltop Hoods - Testimonial Year
Yes it can, this is a good rap track (and I don't usually like rap) and they namedrop Public Enemy, and incidentally this sounds like it was made before gangsta turned rap into a heap of dung. Oh and Aussie accents rapping is pretty cool. Sage Francis was what I thought of when I heard this.
5. 1200 Techniques - Karma
Also rap and ditto on the goodness, sort of like Jay Z's 99 Problems without the braggadocio, it's got geetar, good rappers and most importantly it's got a message, I mean other than let's smoke some niggas.
6. Darren Hanlon - Punk's Not Dead
"Punk's not dead
She’s just gone to bed"
that's the chorus(thing), and I had to surrender, what a great song, deliciously quirky and again the aussie accents are super.
7. New Buffalo - I've Got You and You Got Me
This is a really sweet song, labtop thing, kind of like a lullaby with 30’s atmosphere, beautifully done.
8. Gotye - Out Here in the Cold
Likewise but darker, reminds me of Azure Ray only with male voice, at first the lyrics annoyed me. But I admit together with the music it works well, I get the feeling that if the vocals were a sample it would have been better, call me weird. Despite that I still think it's a good track.
9. Four Tet - She Moves She
The Aussie who weren't actually Aussie, oh well it's still good, a bit like some of the Danish dub fellas, Future 3 but it's not as quite as damaged LP sounding as them.
10. Machine Translations - She wears a Mask
We are in indie territory again; I can't really name some comparisons, not to say its generic more sort of universal if you understand.
11. The Cat Empire - Days Like These
I reckon this is what ska sounds like if it were meshed with hiphop(and a bit of reggae thrown in for good measure), so summery I almost forget it's pouring down outside

12. Andy Clockwise - Song for the Unemployed
I was half expecting something like Sufjan Stevens, but na, it's much more lively and festive, pretty good but not a standout track.
13. Total silence before the storm... uhh...
14. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds w/ Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow
Oh I had been trembling in me undies for this track, and what do I get? Only
the only song with Kylie Minogue that could be consider good (and not stupidly catchy), I must admit I hummed the chorus a couple times. What? I am a sucker for both Nick Cave and his murder ballads, and as it is I like this song as well...ha

Overall I like this mix, the flow is good as it slows kind of down in the middle (with the laptop stuff) and then picks up again. There wasn't a song I didn't like, only a couple that weren't great, quite a feat I'd say. You sort of inspired me to get some of this aussie stuff, perhaps some Darren Hanlon…
