Ooh hey ASturge, I finished yours tonight!  I'll mail it tomorrow, I promise!

KharBevNor:
Okay, track-list and track-by-track review:

1. Trendy - Sorry

The track started out pretty rocking, which was cool. The music was good throughout. The vocals however, gave me a dangerous feeling of emooooooooo on more than one occasion. Not bad though. Just not my thing really. The music was good rock though. I felt my toe tapping on more than one occasion. The emo-ishness petered out a bit towards the end as well. Overall, a thumb tentatively sloped maybe twenty degrees from the horizontal.

2.DJ Payroll - Float on the Message

I really don't get most hip-hop. However, this gets a lot of points for inventive beats and loops, and being vastly better than pretty much everything on MTV. The lyrics seem pretty good. It's not going to change my mind, but it was actually quite pleasant to listen to, rather than a lot of rap and hip-hop, which totally gets on my nerves. Easy listening-hop? Maybe.

3.The Sharp Things - I'll Always Be Your Loser, Honey

This song starts off with a pretty nice relaxing piano intro. The vocals make me think SEVENTIES SEVENTIES SEVENTIES for some reason, which is a good thing. Saxophone joins in after a while, and the track goes on in what is frankly a rather pleasing manner. I like this track! Full thumb up. First track I really liked on the mix. Will it be the only? Time and the creeping progress of the play bar will tell.

4: Buddy & July Miller - Little Darlin

Gah! I could really like this song. I can dig country and bluegrass. The problem is the vocal (and possibly vocal/harmonica?) harmonies of the YEEEHAAAW sort. Whilst Bud and Julie (I think they both sing) aren't singing it can be a pretty damn nice track. Buddy on his own is ok, but there's something about the two together that really sets me on edge. For all of that, it gets pretty good around the middle, and the lyrics seem pretty good.

5:The K.G.B. - Captain Max

Again, emoish tinged vocals at first, but that's mainly the accent I think. Really good lyrics on the first bit from what I could hear. Ska I think? But not ott and annoying in any particular way. Again, one of those things that not really my thing though. If you see what I mean.

6:DJ BC - Snoop Dogg Battles The Pink Robots

This is the first track I really didn't like. I'd imagine this is a mash-up of Snoop Dogg and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by the Flaming Lips? This is more the sort of rap I don't like. I found myself skipping forward ten seconds or so a few times. What kinda perplexed me is it only seemed to have two lines of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

7: Marxy - We Won't Be Sold

Another sort of classic sounding rock/pop track. Echoes of late Beatles to my ear. Cheesy keyboard ftw. Not bad stuff really...the ending is kinda odd. Goes into a lot of rapidly changing samples and pieces of chip music and whatnot. Ends very suddenly. Not too keen on that.

8: The Hysterics - Mostly Untitled

Nice title. THis one continues that sort of classic pop vibe. Pretty nice easy listening kind of stuff. The kind of thing that might go in my collection along with similiar-ish types of thing I have more of an attachment for, like Marc Almond, The Kinks and Simon and Garfunkel.

9:Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone

Bad track title spelling doth not endear me! Kinda a simple song, guitar and vocals. I do not like the mans vocals, tbh. Especially when he draws out notes or goes high. Not bad guitar though...that's kinda all I really gotta say about this track. Meh. Seemed a bit...insubstantial almost.

10: Elvis Costello - I Want You

This guys vocals are way better, and he has backing musicians and everything. I like this track much more, though the intro is very quiet. This would b a definite thumbs up track, but it's so long! That can be cool, but it is very subdued and repetitive. I can stand that, but only from certain people. I dunno, who can explain their musical taste fully? A pretty nice 3 minute track. :p

11: The Velvet Underground - The Murder Mystery

Ah, the Velvet Underground. The crucial band I have only heard on adverts. Very long track, but wierd. The spoken, multi-line vocals on the initial part are very distinctive. I like the way the keyboard develops with the psychedelic guitars. Interesting picking all the things out. The last section with the hammond organ is a change, and also odd. As I said, a wierd track. Not really sure if I like it, but it was interesting. I couldn't pay it as much attention as it maybe deserved, but I'll give it another listen sometime possibly.

12: R.E.M. - These Days

We've moved forward in time! 'tis the eighties now, and everything is alright. Or at least that's what it sounds like. Rock music just before grunge got it's grimy mitts on it. Not that bad. The vocals are pretty good.

13: The National - Mr. November

Another sort of rock ballad, but much more modern sounding, and pretty damn free of emovocals. Woo! The vocals are again, a highlight. The sudden stop off in the middle breaks up the structure nicely. The lyrics sound ok too. Again, not really my thing, but this is ok. I might give it a listen now and again.

14: Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street

More old-school sounding stuff. Very subdued, some good vocals. I like this track quite a bit actually. The mix has come through again! Reminds me a bit of Dylan, after he went electric and before he found Jesus behind his fridge. I love the high guitar lines under the chorus.

15: Uncle Tupelo - New Madrid

Another country sort of song. Reminded me of a comment I once heard of emo just being country songs to bad hardcore. lol. Nah, I jest, not bad. Simple, twangy guitar lines, but they suit the song and vocals, or vice versa. Needs more harmonica. Good ender though.

So all in all, not too bad, though I doubt there's much been added to my lexicon. You seem to be a man of taste though sir, just one that is not mine. And that is all cool*.

*Mainly because I've had my caffeine fix, and I'm in a really good mood.:p

Willis:
Hey Khar, glad you enjoyed (for the most part) the mix.  I also appreciated your comments.  I was a bit worried about how it would go over, but those seem unfounded.

McTaggart:
Glad you liked it Praeserpium!

Seriously, that made my day.

KharBevNor:
So, how many people have got/sent their tapes?

I think we should start round 3 pretty soon. I am an eager beaver.
