anyway, im getting the 12 inch most likely,, with a larger hd...

are the new system specs going to run tiger pretty well?  i dont know if i can afford more ram, and crucial doesnt have it updated yet, so yeah, i dont know how i could get more for less than they offer it (expensive)

the upgrades arent THAT dramatic, but increased ram speed janx, bluetooth built-in and same price=win

so yeah, question on ram, is all.
ill be doing itunes, word processing, web page browsing, and like fiddling with garage band. and the rest of ilife...and possibly the final cut janx

aiite!!!!!!

They slightly updated the Mac mini line as well. I'm really considering getting another one now that the $599 price tag is rocking the proper hardware (specifically 512MB RAM, but the wireless stuff is sweet too ;)). The problem is that I really want to wait until they release their Intel systems, even more so since they are going to bring out the Intel mini as one of their first products.

Oh the problems nerds must deal with.

And they still didn't fix that which I always found unacceptable.. the weight. Everyone else has 12" versions that weighs half of the iBook and yet Apple just won't do it.. I don't get it, it can't be that hard to release a light-weight version, it'd even be cheaper.

It's still a very decent laptop though, even more so with the changes.

something that still bothers me with this new ibook lineup is the graphics cards. they've both still got the 9550's, which only come with 32megs of video memory.

tiger uses this thing called core image (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/) to handle a lot of its cool transitions (ripples when you invoke the dashboard, and so on). for a computer to take advantage of this core image stuff, it needs to have at least 64mb of video memory. for you, basically this means you'll miss out on some of the gratuitous cool effects apple have built into tiger. pretty much it's all eye-candy though.

my main concern is not the eye-candy stuff, but the fact that this core image stuff is a sort of framework thingy that other developers can use in their programs: so if someone else develops a program that uses core image technology, you'll miss out a bit. from what i can gather though, you'll still be able to run these programs, just without some of the cool effects. from what you've listed above though, it seems you'll be fine (unless you start to really get into final cut. i haven't really used it much, but it can be pretty demanding on your hardware, apparently).

i found a thread on another forum discussing this in a bit more detail. it's a bit old, but the cards are still the same: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-100192.html

that does sound pretty silly.  one would expect that if they were going to make something like that a core part of the OS they'd at least give people the power to use it :/

yeh. apple have always copped a bit of flak for how they skimp on graphics cards like that.

(edit: so apparently these new ibooks can handle coreimage stuff, even though the 9550 isn't listed on apple's page about coreimage. odd.)

I got the twelve inch with a bigger hard drive.
it's pretty rad.
I'm having a harder time than I'd expected adjusting back to 1024x768 though.
I mean, I only had 1024x768 for eight years of my life, then I get to use a decent sized (1440x900) monitor for six months and now I can't go back.

i notice the resolution adjustment too.  i go from my desktop (19"CRT at 1600x1200) to my laptop (15"LCD at 1024x768) and it's like woah!

also: mac = win (despite that i dont own one)
