Bands you know you should have heard, but haven't

saturnine1979:
Cat Power is a must listen. Chan Marshall's voice is loverly.

I listened to a Dinosaur Jr. album and I didn't get why they're hyped so much as one of the biggest indie bands. They just sounded dull.

TV On The Radio is excellent.

The Fiery Furnaces are challenging. Blueberry Boat is weird and quirky and youthful and complex and sometimes it's just plain fucked up, but if you approach it without any expectations, I think you can definitely love it.

I love the title track.

Skibas_clavicle:
I always feel wierd when I approach a record with expectations actually. I always check what I've heard about the band or songs at the door, I think it makes the listening experience so much more personal and authentic that way....I stopped talking reviews to heart long ago.

Willis:

--- Quote from: Skibas_clavicle ---There's a good lot of music that I still haven't checked out, and probabaly should, here are a few:

LCD Soundsystem
The Unicorns
Animal Collective
Television
Dinosaur Jr.
Cat Power
TV on the Radio
The Fiery Furnaces

I'm gonna go hide and cry now....everything else that people mentioned I'm pretty familiar with though.

As far as your list goes, go out and buy Marquee Moon.  You will not be disappointed.  As far as LCD Soundsystem goes, I don't understand the fix with them.  Nothing impressive, IMHO.

Kid Modernist:
I've got another two:

Animal Collective and Magnetic Fields

The first I've heard some, maybe like one or two but never checked out more. The latter I've heard a lot of but never heard.

Inlander:
Skibas: I envy you the fact that you have yet to experience your first time listening to Marquee Moon.  It's gonna change your life!  As for Cat Power, my first recommendation has always been and always will be Moon Pix.  If "Metal Heart" doesn't make you weak at the knees, I don't know what will.

Kid Modernist: have a listen to "Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" by the Magnetic Lovers.  Please.  It'll put a big dumb ol' smile on your face!  And then rush out and buy 69 Love Songs.
