i just made a mix.

If I get you in the next exchange I'm going to use only ONE artist in my mix!
Your toads are not safe.

--- Quote from: thew ---Nuts to that rule. I like to sprinkle around multiple tracks by the same artist sometime.

I like to mix a little semen into the mayonnaise at the local Wendy's but that doesn't make it right.
Reusing an artist generally means that you have limited musicians you're drawing from and thus are running out of material. That's like admitting you've only got one testicle.
thew:
How did you know I only had one testicle?

I really dont get the whole mix tape thing. I dont own a tape recorder, or a single tape. I dont even have a standalone CD player, its been nothing but MP3 for the last 8 years or so. i used to send friends compilation CDs, but those were cds (and now dvds) crammed with mp3s. Broadband internet, cheap storage, and sophisticated multimedia home entertainment systems have rendered physical media non-existant.
I can kind of understand the concept of a mix tape though. With mp3, i play songs in the order that fits my mood, not compiled into albums. A mix tape just seems to be a low-tech way of doing the same thing.

There are several purposes for a mix.
First, not all of us are fortunate enough to own an iPod. Yeah, there's people out there that still use CD players. So if we want a varied listening experience, we need to make mixes.
Secondly, mixtapes can be a good way to provide a friend with a sampling of various bands, especially if you're trying to introduce them to new stuff. While someone may not want to sit through an entire album to see if they like something, a mix lets them try out lots of bands at once (this is the same reason people buy comps, for example).
Third, mixes can be nice gifts to give people. A good mix takes a lot of thought and time to put together, and will be tailored to the person you're making it for. A friend having a bad week? Put together a mix to help cheer him up. Going out with a cute girl and want to give her a nice but inexpensive gift? Mixtape. Having a party and you want to put together a varied musical selection? Mixtape. Your boss fired you? You burn a fucking mixtape of the most violent punk and metal songs and you leave it right on top of his fucking inbox.
