I just put on Champagne Supernova. and whatever you say about Oasis (and yes Blur ARE and always have been BETTER) this song still sounds fucking amazing 10 years later. I mean. Wowzer. the song packs a heavy punch. It's like being hit by a ton of blokey Mancunian bricks. It's beautiful!

What other classic songs are there that people have forgotten about for years and then stuck on and gone 'Fuck me sideways that is fucking BRILLIANT!'

Another two I just unearthed were 'Polynomial' and 'Analogue Bubblebath' by Aphex Twin.

I've grown to pretty much dislike later Dimmu Borgir (From my 14 year old position of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Emperor being me three definitive favourite bands ever) but whilst trawling my library at random a couple of days back I came across 'Puritania' by Dimmu Borgir, which I have got to admit is pretty fucking slaying. It sounds nothing like the rest of their stuff though.

"Bygone are tolerance and presence of grace,
Scavengers are sent out to cleanse the human filth parade!"

Listened to some Tom Lehrer again recently as well. YES!

Tom Lehrer is indeed good. if you like him also check out Guy Noir. It's in a similar vein.

Fucking nobody remembers Sugar. They had two GREAT albums, and some so-so EPs. But I hear Bob Mould is playing some Sugar songs on his current solo tour.

The other day I went to my local club and the DJ (who looks worryingly like Jeph) was in the middle of playing a random selection of cheesy 80's stuff. After the crowd declared they wanted more 80's and less metal, he stuck on 'Don't You Forget About Me' by Simple Minds.

Man, that song kicks so much ass.

Almost every song on Blondie's "Parallel Lines". It's totally awesome music (if a little simple) with a damn good singer who had a shitload of attitude.

Apparently this used to be my favorite CD when I was 4. So I guess it counts as nostalgia sort of. But it's good music too.

Also, has anyone else ever noticed how much "Dancing Days" is brutally wicked-awesome?

"The Best Things" - Filter. I never was really into Filter back in the day, but now I find myself listening to them more and more. I just chose "The Best Things" because the beat is stuck in my frontal lobe.

Word. And a half.

I'm still suprised at how good "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters is. And you're going to laugh at me for saying this, but the local pop station was doing a '90s retro show and they played "Two Become One" by the Spice Girls, and I was honestly struck by how not-sucky it was. It's a solid song. In fact, for disposable bubblegum teenybopper pop, most of their stuff wasn't half bad in terms of melody and rhythm.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go stick my head in a bucket of bleach because I just defended the fucking Spice Girls.

Ah, one of the Husker Du solo projects? I've heard of them, as well as the stuff by the drummer, who had one good album, I believe.

Albuquerqe may or may not be one of the funniest songs ever. Unfortunately, the novelty sort of wears off (as with all bands who are never serious...)

You're close. The chorus goes like this:
"With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid, and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mullato, an albino
A mosquito, my libido
YEAH!"

Back on topic... er, I'm not old enough to know any good classics that have been forgotten.
I like the Pink Floyd "Another Brick In The Wall" parts. But I don't think they're forgotten... are they?

I thought it was something about the lights being out and it sustaining them. Whatever, grunge was a stupid movement anyways. The only decent thing to come out of it was the Mudhoney cover of "Pump It Up". That's good stuff.

Alice in Chains were pretty good.

And Prac, The Wall is easily their most popular album, so probably not. I'll tell you what is forgotten though: See Emily Play. and Bike. Syd Barret rocks your socks.

A song called "Powerbag" by The Adventures. Heard it once on an 80's radio station when I was 8 or 9 and I think it changed the way I listen to music. I've never been able to find it. Everything I seem to find by this band is total shite. There used to be a video of it on Yahoo Launch, but I think it's gone now... sad.

If you've heard this song and own it, pleasepleaseplease send it to me!!!

Metallica - Kill 'Em All
People, now focused on The Black Album, and St. Anger, seemed to forget that this album was seriously good stuff, even though it wasn't really written by Metallica, but Dave Mustaine(Megadeth).
Also, Megadeth - Rust In Peace, to this day, is probably one of the greatest thrash album EVER MADE.

Kill Em All is basically middle-of-the-road Mercyful Fate worship with vocals not as cool as King Diamond.

Yezziree. Great song. Great lyrics. The singer guy from Mudhoney kinda sings it not as good as Elvis Costello, but they made the music behind it more exciting and rockin'. Great cover.

Flah.  Blue Oyster Cult is far from forgotten.  I can hear five kids a day singing that song in my school.

Good thing, too.

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest seem to have largely been forgotten, even with new releases and all.

Heck, I heard nothing of Dickinson's newest solo album and only one of Priest's new songs, and on a station that claims to play both old and new rock/metal, it's surprising I've not heard anything by either of them in many months.

Sorry. My mom used to have one mix tape in her car and it's all we'd ever listen to. That song was on it. So now I kind of hate that song just from having heard it at least 1000 times. But besides that, it's a kickass song and I love it. Other songs on the mix that I have that love/hate thing with now: Lou Reed's "Take A Walk On The Wild Side", Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground", and goddam "Tubthumping". Except Tubthumping I pretty much just hate now.

So, this is REALLY obscure (unless you were into this genre at the time), but I have kind of been digging up a lot of my tooth and nail CDs recently. Fave's right now are the Prayer Chain's "Mercury" and Starflyer 59's "Silver."
Yeah, can't imagine too many people here were into the early / mid nineties Christian Alternative music scene, lol. But dang it, there was some really good stuff from that era / genre.

add Acoustic, double the fun.

Alice in Chains had some badass songs, like Heaven Beside Me.

Oh man, that one song, I'm having trouble remembering the band, and the song title, but it was all like "turn your head now baby, just spit me out"  that was classicaly forgotten.

Also, The Toadies - Possum Kingdom

ooh ooh, Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome
