So, has anyone else heard of them? I've known of em for a couple months now, but I just started listening to them yesterday, and I am really really impressed. This is easily the best band I've heard from Australlia ever. It's like they took every idea from 3rd wave ska and turned it totally better. And they are all great instrumentalists.

I have always thought Nick Cave was the best thing to come out of Australia, the worst thing being Kylie Minogue or any other soap-opera(all the australian series I have seen have been terrible, especially the Tribe, that Swift guy needs a kick in the groin) actress turned singer.
Anyway on topic Taggart sent me a song by them on his mix, and while I liked it, I didn't pursue it any further. I think I am too mellow for ska :)

Jesus Christ - this is not the best Australia Music - this is crap.

I have had it crammed down my throat for a year know and it just gets worse, ughhh! Their only good song is 'The Car Song' because it is vaguely amusing.

They went all the way to Cuba to record their lastest crappy record and its still annoying drivel.

If you want to hear some good Australian music try

Rocket Science
The Avalanches
Crowded House
Augie March
Love Outside Andromeda
Midnight Oil
Architecture in Helsinki
The Cops

If anyone comes up to me and even looks like saying hello hello like in the song, i punch them in the face.  It is a disease that must be purged.

...The Avalanches

I'm inclined to disagree. The Avalanches do however rank a close second. I'm across the ditch though so I can't make a judgement on the underground scene in Auz.
The Cops though? God awful...
I shall rephrase: Best main stream Australian band that we get in New Zealand.

I hate the Cat Empire, I'm not the biggest fan of .."talking songs" where they like to say lyrics rather than sing them. Some bands have a great track so "talking" isn't an issue but sadly TCE don't. Plus their style of music isn't my favourite. As for the statement of best australian band? I don't think it's even close, although it subjective.

Adding to the list of great Australian bands.

that slogan is a good slogan. so good, in fact, I think it should be applied to other things. like, "there's no wrong way to hit your spouse." or "there's no wrong way to commit nonconsentual sodomy."

Yeah, I realized after I made this that I was gonna get shot down bigtime by a lot of Australlians. Didn't even know they were big there. Though they were one of those bands like Mano Negra that gets a little play in a lot of countries.

I just dig "Manifesto" a lot. And a couple of other tracks on the CD with it. Don't know the name, knicked it from a freind. I think it's fun stuff though.

While definately not the best thing to come out of Australia, they really aren't as bad as some of you are making out. Their first album was pretty good if I recall, but it did get annoying with repetition. I find you've got to be in the right mood else they get kind of irritating.

I don't think they were ever actually big here though, Hello Hello or whatever got some air play on the commercial stations and then I think the population in general promptly forgot about them.

I was born in NZ, so was Neil Finn and he was the only Kiwi in Crowded House (except for Tim for Woodface) and they were always based in Aus so for me that makes them an Aussie band.

NZ can keep Russell Crowe and 30 odd foot of c^hgrunts.

you must have serious issues with hip-hop, then.

i've always thought of the cat empire as a poor man's ozomatli. but then, recent ozomatli stuff is pretty much a poor man's ozomatli. so i don't really know what to think anymore.
