I think this was inspired by a web comic but I can't remember which one (Joe and Monkey?).

Anyhoo, here is my ultimate band line up -

Drums - Phil Selway - Radiohead
Bass - Jeordie White - Marilyn Manson / A Perfect Circle / N.I.N.
Rhythm Guitar - James Iha - Smashing Pumpkins
Lead Guitar - Joey Santiago - Pixies
Vocals - Bjork

Ultra-best Avant/Prog band:

Lead Vocals: {some songs} Andi Deris (Helloween) {some songs} Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas [among others]) {and others still} Dave Brocky (aka. Oderus Urungus of GWAR)
Backing Vocals/Sound Effects/Song writer: Mike Patton (See above...)
Lead Guitar: John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) {and occasionally} Al Pitrelli (Ex?-Megadeath, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Savatage)
Rhythm Guitar: Trey Spurance (Mr. Bungle, Secret Cheifs 3)
Keys: Derek Sherinian (Ex-Dream Theater, Planet X)
Horns: Clinton "Bar" McKinnon (Mr. Bungle) and Ara Anderson (several Tom Waits recordings and Tin Hat Trio)
Assorted Strings: Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat Trio, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum)
Bass: Michael Lupond (Symphony X)
Drums: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment) {and occasionaly} Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Fantomas)

Yeah. That would be the greatest.

While I have to say that my dream band is Under Byen, I might make one of those boring obvious ones ;)

Name: Stop Making Sense
genre: fucked-up...eh core
Only plays liveshows, but bootlegging is encouraged.

drums: Dave Grohl(If all he ever did was playing drums like on Songs for the Deaf, he is clearly wasting his time in Foo Fighters if you ask me)
bass: Flea? Or the guy from Rage Against the Machine
programming: Stewart from Xiu Xiu
rthythm geetar: Lee Renaldo(Sonic Youth)
lead geetar: Jonny Greenwood(Radiohead)
acoustic geetar: Devendra Banhart or one from the Gipsy Kings
disney strings: Danny Elfman
percussion: Safri Duo(say what you will about their trite eurodance, but those guys can play percussion)
Pan pipes and punchbag: Gheorghe Zamfir(he could make the pan rock if he had balls)
vocals: Tori Amos, PJ Harvey and Björk in tongues.

Enough artistic ego to cause a second big bang :)

Ultimate heavy metal band:

Lead Guitar: Michael Amott (Arch Enemy/Candlemass)
Lead Vocals: Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
Backing vocals: Piotr Wawrzeniuk (Therion)
Rhythm Guitar, Keys (for intros and whatnot): Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity)
Second lead guitar: Herman Li (DragonForce)
Bass: Lemmy (Motorhead)
Drums: Jan Axel 'Hellhammer' Blomberg (Mayhem, etc.)

This band would basically just call itself 'Metal'. After they released their first album, everyone else in the genre would give up and write books about how awesome the eighties were.

Ultra-sick band for people with pseudonyms:

Vocals: Animal (The Anti-Nowhere League)
Bass and vocals: Nattefrost (Carpathian Forest)
Lead Guitar: Fornicus 'Fuckmouth' McFlappy (Crotchduster)
Rhythm guitar and backing vocals: Seth Putnam (Anal Cunt)
Drums: The Soviet Drum Horror (Overlord)

They would be incredible. Unfortunately, they would all be arrested after their first show for sodomising underage Ukrainian prostitutes on stage, vomiting on the audience, smashing the clubs PA, setting fire to the DJ and causing a full-scale riot. I think they'd probably be called 'Cunt'.

Ultimate Heathen metal band:

Black vocals: Cíaran O'Hagan (Waylander)
Clean vocals and lead guitar: Athelstan (Forefather)
Female vocals and traditional percussion: Karen Gilligan (Cruachan)
Rhythm guitar/producer: Tony McCormack (Inkubus Sukkubus)
Drums: Walter Van Cortenberg (Ancient Rites)
Violin and keys: Georgina Biddle (Skyclad)
Tin Whistle:  Máirtín Mac Cormaic (Waylander)
Bass: Tundra (Finntroll)
Bazouki, Balalaika and acoustic guitar: Cane (Korpiklaani)

If they combined their influences together properly, the musical result would require me to purchase a whole stack of new trousers. A live concert by them would just be absurd.

Ok, I guess Joanna Newsom can have a guest appearance or two. What I've heard of hers was ok. But Sarah Harmer? I can't really judge because I've only heard one song, 'Almost', but that was a horrid annoying song.

Ummm, is the other guy that guy who used to be in Propaghandi?

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Yeah.

To at least mix it up a little, add in Rocky Votolato (Waxwing) as a second guitarist and vocalist.
