Author Topic: newbie question: how does one package cds to be shipped off?  (Read 7878 times)

I plan to make mix cds for a friend in another land. I have several questions!

1.) what does law say about distributing mix cds? nobody freaks out and goes ZOMG WE'RE DEPORTING THESE FILTHY DISCS?

2.) ah. what is your technique in packaging? STUDY PACKAGING but minimal weight in order to ensure affordability of shipping fees! (Yes I am stingy, because I am a poor not very employed highschool student.)

3.) what are your experiences in receiving CORRUPT discs? **gasp** what potentially causes this corruption? and HOW TO STOP IT? :O :O

Sankyuu.

1. Not as far as I know.
2. I put them in regular envelopes.
3. Never gotten one.

So I guess the risks aren't too high.

1. I doubt anyone cares. Seriously.
2. Here in Australia, you get these cardboard dedicated cd box things. They do pretty well and are quite cheap. You could always go for the bubble wrap envelopes, but I've ever tried those.
3. I think that if you just test the cd to make sure it works before you send it it'll come out alright on the other end.

You can get dedicated CD envelopes in Canada, Coonstar. They're large enough to fit a CD by itself, a CD a slim case or a CD with a full-on jewel case, liner notes and back insert and everything. And they cost I think three bucks, if I remember right. Happy posting!

When packaging mixes for trade I've generally just recycled bubble-wrap envolopes I had lying around from mail-ordering stuff. The packaging I usefor the CDs themselves is made out of recycled LP mailers and is pretty sturdy. Jewel cases are hell in the mail and rarely arrive intact.

You should be able to find CD envelopes at your local post office. If you live in Canada and have heard of Hasty Market, you should be able to find them there.

Affirmative. Hell, I went to one in a Shoppers Drug Mart and they had 'em.
