i can't find the story in their songs
It can be a bit difficult. The story is mixed up time wise among the albums.

you mean newer albums actually come first?

what are the titles again?

second stage turbine
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness

okay so...is IKSSE the third volume? and GAIB is the fourth, or the first volume?!?!?

HEAD EXPLODES.

I don't think the content of the story is actually mixed up timewise like that. The band's first album, Second Stage Turbine Blade, is the story's second chapter. The new album is the fourth chapter. Well, part 1 of the fourth chatper. After they finish up chapter four, the plan is to go back and do chapter one. So they have two more albums of story left to go.

As far as the actual content of the story, it's not a very clear narrative. I own the two comic books they've put out so far, which takes things up through "Everything Evil," track 4 of SSTB. The comics make the story marginally clearer, but still, the lyrics are pretty tough as far as figuring things out. I think Claudio also has a bunch of musical cues that are supposed to represent certain things, but he hasn't done a lot of explaining about what each cue is supposed to mean.

Mostly I like the band for the excellent two-guitar interplay, catchy melodies, and the way they have one foot planted in the punk world and one in the 70's prog world.

Good Apollo volume 1 is supposed to be the first half of the fourth chapter... they're supposed to release good apollo v. 2, and then the prequel to the whole story, which should make it easier to understand as a whole...

Just picked it up, by the way... it kicks so much ass

And you guys don't all listen to Nightingale and Ayreon...why?

Oh yeah, I forgot. No pitchforky, No tinymixtapey!

If you guys lap this stuff up, you'd cream for Nightingale and Ayreon.

I have been listening to the new Coheed album for over a week now i think, and it's the best thing to happen to my ears lately.  That and the new Broken Social Scene have been pretty much the only things going into my head.

i dont really like these bands that come out with a set of concept albusm that they want to do, or decide that every album has to be a concept story album, cos what do they do after the story is over?

In the case of Bowie, you just burn out in the eighties and release a video like "China Girl." Kids, we aren't to far from Coheed & Cambria's Let's Dance phase.

Nightingale just started making normal albums with songs about existentialism, rain and the siege of Stalingrad. Stuff like that.

Johnny, if you enjoy Ayreon, you should definitely check out Nightingale. They're actually pretty closely related bands (Dan Swano, Nightingales front-man/erstwhile sole member is also a member of Arjen Lucassen's side-project Star One, and Arjen contrinuted a killer guitar solo to one of Nightingales albums in return.) Nightingales first album is pure straight-up Sisters of Mercy worship metal-tinged goth rock, but later albums get totally proggy. They're a bit like Ayreon, but more focused and guitar centric. Only one vocalist as well. If you want to test 'em out, try (tracks) 'Forever and Ever', 'Scarred for Life', 'Losing Myself' or 'State of Shock'.

I read maybe three words of that Bal-Sagoth monstrosity, Khar.

WHY? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS LISTENABLE, WHY?

I fucking hate Coheed and Cambria, by the way.

It's not just the pretension. Nay, that's trifle in my reasons for dislike.
It's basically that they sound like a bad Rush cover band. And I don't like Rush. Or progressive rock.

Or you.

I have to admire the dedication to the subject, but, christ... that's alot to digest, you know?

I guess I'm just not up to par after getting my fill of easy to swallow, sugary Indie Pop.

Also: I would have to agree on the content being better than "OMGI'MSOSAAAAAAAAAAD"

To be honest, you can't really listen to Bal-Sagoth for the lyrics, except with headphones and booklet in hand. It's all about the music. Which is pretty good stuff.

I've seen too many threads gone the way of Dee-Lite due to Green Day arguments.

I think everyone here (with a few exceptions) would take Coheed over Green Day anyday. At least Coheed is musically interesting.

Green Day's new album is simply so-so. And the fact that everyone is trumpeting them for having 15 minute tracks pisses me off, considering that said songs are merely a bunch of small songs pasted together.

The number of songs doesn't piss me off, it's the fact that some want to call them punk innovators when really it isn't.

Coheed & Cambria are one of the worst bands I have ever heard.

I'd understand if you don't like their style or pretentious nature, but worst band?  Their guitar work is amazing.  There's some really good stuff on their latest album.  I know you play guitar Jeph, and you can't listen to The Final Cut and not appreciate what they do.

The biggest I own personally is Discordance Axis - Original Sound Version (69 tracks). The most ever is Anal Cunt - 5643 song EP.

I think that's pretty unbeatable.

As for length, I could put together a long last of tracks so long that it would blow any Green Day fanboy or fangirls mind.

Wait... you're not referring to Green Day still, are you? Because anybody who thinks 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' constitutes quality songwriting must have a massive head injury.

Man people are being trolls about coheed and cambria? They're probably my favorite band. I actually found this website off the Cobalt and Calcium web forums. I don't like the fact that people are going more for the "over pretentious" angle are pissing me off. They're solid musicians at heart, that's all they'll ever be. The story is awesome, it's just hard to follow and i'm not a big fan of it. If Coheed and Cambria are over-pretentious, what are the mars volta? I haven't found one shred of even understandable lyrics, other then televators. (of course, the mars volta is another one of my absolute favorite bands because omar is a fucking god at guitar.)

Stop trolling coheed and cambria.

STOP comparing them to green day.

I can understand when people deem Co&Ca annoying. Part of the music is overly dramatic, the geeky appeal might seem scary and Claudio's voice is ... er ... unique.
That said, I still like them.

But comparing them to Green Day is just plain uncalled for. It's just way too insulting.

Also, The Mars Volta's lyrics are understandable (sort of) if you know what the songs are supposed to say. Also, several images occur again and again in Cedric's lyrics (even stuff from the old ATD-I days) and if you understand those, they sort of serve as a key.
Also, the most accessible TMV song, lyrics-wise, has to be Concertina.
