The latter I enjoy, more than I should probably admit. The Human Equation is on my "list of albums to buy once I get a goddamn job already"

i dont really like these bands that come out with a set of concept albusm that they want to do, or decide that every album has to be a concept story album, cos what do they do after the story is over?

Johnny C:
Attempt real music.

In the case of Bowie, you just burn out in the eighties and release a video like "China Girl." Kids, we aren't to far from Coheed & Cambria's Let's Dance phase.

Nightingale just started making normal albums with songs about existentialism, rain and the siege of Stalingrad. Stuff like that.

Johnny, if you enjoy Ayreon, you should definitely check out Nightingale. They're actually pretty closely related bands (Dan Swano, Nightingales front-man/erstwhile sole member is also a member of Arjen Lucassen's side-project Star One, and Arjen contrinuted a killer guitar solo to one of Nightingales albums in return.) Nightingales first album is pure straight-up Sisters of Mercy worship metal-tinged goth rock, but later albums get totally proggy. They're a bit like Ayreon, but more focused and guitar centric. Only one vocalist as well. If you want to test 'em out, try (tracks) 'Forever and Ever', 'Scarred for Life', 'Losing Myself' or 'State of Shock'.
