Cake's fine with me. I've got everything except for Comfort Eagle, and I've enjoyed most of them alot.

The new one didn't blow my skirt up or anything, though.

I have got a big old soft spot for Cake.  I love my hometown boys. Nowadays most people in Sacramento are just embarrassed by Cake, and bash them at any chance possible. On the other hand, I am just embarrassed to be from Sacramento.

Cake are good in small quantities, but sometimes I just can't handle all the "Oh yeah, alright, oh yeah" stuff. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

They have some of the grooviest singles there are, but for some reason I haven't checked out more than that.

Sheep go to heaven is still good for a nostalgic listen.  And the ladies seem to like the cover of "I will survive" for reasons not immediately apparent.  Otherwise, *yawn*.

I squealed when I saw the movie Orange County and their song "Shadow Stabbing" was playing for the credits. Awesomeness.

I had totally forgotten that Shadow Stabbing was the Orange County credit song... I freaked out when I heard that.  It was pretty sweet.

I like Fashion Nugget, it has some brilliant tracks. Italian Leather Sofa, I Will Survive, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, and even The Distance managed to survive massive radio overplay for me.

Apart from that, Cake don't do a lot for me, although I distinctly remember Motorcade having a few decent tracks, but the rest of the albums always seemed a little mediocre.

One thing that I thought was really weird, was I was sitting around listening to Fashion Nugget, and reading "The World According to Garp" and it seemed like the book was synching up with the album.  I think that was mostly because during the scene where Garp's wife bites off that other dudes knob while they're driving, "Stickshifts and Safety Belts" was playing, because that seemed hilarious at the time.

Cake's former drummer, Todd Roper (who is solid), has been playing with several SF area bands/artists lately that have just put out albums that will probably fly below the Pitchfork trendar, but are absolutely fantastic:

Sensations (http://www.listentomyshapes.com) - a side project of Mother Hips' guitarist Greg Loiacono

Etienne de Rocher (http://www.etiennederocher.com) funky pop/folk

Both are well, well worth checking out.

I love their cover of "I Will Survive!" It's brilliant because it is so deliciously ironic. It's supposed to be this loud passionate song about self-confidence and standing up for yourself.. and they just sing it so monotonously and bland. It's awesome.

I find Cake boring. They have a couple of good songs, but I just don't really care that much about them. Now, EATING cake is another story.

My thoughts exactly. But then again, I rarely listen to chill music anyway.

By naming theri band "Cake", they have subjected me to the "Cake is a food and a music group, haha" joke at least three times to my recollection.

The only two albums I've heard from them are Comfort Eagle and Fashion Nugget, and I really like both.  Commissioning A Symphony In C is a great track.  They do a kickass I Will Survive cover, too.
