I'd probably do it without the back ground, simply because if you want to put the background in later you can and it won't be difficult to add it, whereas if you put it in right away you're not really going to be able to take it out. I don't have anything with white ink but I know that white tends to fade easily and you might need to get it redone in the future, just to fix up any patchy spots. Other than that I say go for it.

If you're getting the background I would suggest a thin black border around the whole thing just to keep it together.

Or the artist should be able to just "fade out" the background, i.e; like the edges of Darwin's jacket as above

i started stretching my ears when i was about 14 or so. at my biggest, my ears were at about 10mm, just a little over 00g. i've gone through numerous bouts of shrinking them and stretching them again because i was always worried that i wouldn't be able to find a job once i finished school. currently, my ears are at 4g because i can't actually get them any smaller than that no matter what, i'm stuck with them now. however, two things of importance have happened this year -

1) i decided i probably want to work in the nonprofit/social services sector more than i want to work in big government, probably, and
2) at the two not for profit shelters that i volunteer at, all of the staff pretty much just look like however the fuck they want.

that said, i have sort of relaxed a bit about whether or not my appearance is going to affect my employability because i'm aiming increasingly more and more for a job in the one area where no one seems to really give a shit at all what anyone looks like anyway and decided that i kind of want to stretch my ears again because i really, really loved them when they were big. should i do it, guys.

I'm going to say yes.

A big thing holding me back from going through with the piercings and tattoos I want to get is the employability thing. Currently I work in a call centre where it really doesn't matter how I look so I know that's not a problem but I'm looking for retail work at the moment where, chances are, I'm going to have to look "presentable".

If I can get the whole "owning my own business" thing off the ground it won't matter so much but yeah, I really want to get more stuff done but at the moment I'm worried how looking fucking rad will affect my life. Also my dad will probably stop talking to me as well, which is an issue given that I really like how our relationship has improved the last few years.

If you're going into that sector, then I see no reason why not since you seemed to like it so much!

Then look through all these stores and stare at all the gorgeous things that could be going in your ears.

hand made, wooden and £24 for the pair. they're absolutely gorgeous, such a great colour, and excuse the fact that my ear looks super red, it's because i keep tugging on the twist because it's long and pretty and feels really nice :D they're both 1/2".

White ink is only for highlights, it doesn't sit in the skin well enough to cover any large spaces so the white apy would most likelly be left skin coloured.

Do it as negative space and have the whitespy in skin tone. That way you don't have to fuck about with white ink which typically doesn't work very well.

Was there a post which got deleted or something? I seem to have missed the question concerning white ink and I'm not curious.

Mmm, not feeling the Pope idea but I dig t-rexes.  I was thinking of making it into a sleeve, and the robot would be walking through a city and shit, and the smoke trail from the rocket would curl around my arm going up and have planets and moons and stars around the ship and stuff.

I don't know.  I'm just thinking about starting a sleeve.

I have started emailing tattooists with my Alice design in an attempt to find someone who will do it well.

It makes em angry when tattoo studios don't have webpages so I can't see their galleries dammit!

Oh this awesome Russian tattooist has moved to Toowoomba and he is really quite good, but he seems to only do black and whiter, and my design is very much colour.  Boo.

Wait there are tattoists who only do one type of thing?

I can understand that there are people out there who get quite good at something and so the demand is so high for them to do that thing that it is all they do but otherwise how do you get away with only doing one specific type of tattooing without going out of business?

Well I mean, he might do colour, but his entire (rather large) gallery is in greyscale, with maybe 4 tattoos having a hint of colour.  He may do it, but it's obviously not something he likes to show off.  I need someone who wants to show off their colour work!

RE: Tattoo artists doing one type of thing

My best friend wants to get his tattooing apprenticeship so he can go and give people old-school style sailor-type tattoos.  He loves that shit.  It's pretty much started to dominate his art style.  I really don't see a problem with sticking with one style of tattoo, because if it's what you really love and you're good at it, then more power to you and if you're any good at doing your own style, then it's probably a pretty safe assumption that you're pretty good at doing up generic stencil junk.

Let's not be too hasty, TE.  I think we need to go on a few dates first and then take it from there.

Yeah, I can think of a few artist who definitely stick 90% to one specific art style. I mean, it's pretty unusual  to only have one artist in a shop so it's not like having a specialist will do much harm to most places and they can still pick up flash clients no problem.

Yeah, pretty much every well known artist here specialises in one style. Most are good at other styles but will tell you to see someone else if you have something that doesn't suit their style. Works well. Course, we have plenty of shitty cowboy scratchers too...

I am so sick of soaking my lip every morning and evening, guys. I knew I would get to this point, and was wondering how long it would take; it seems that nearly 3 weeks of going through the soaking process is my limit. I am still gonna keep soaking it, but I am pretty sure it's going to be an ordeal every time.

Hannah are you not at the point where it doesn't really need the soaking twice a day any more? i start to taper off my soaking on a new piercing after about a week and a half and then just do it whenever the crusties really need washing off. i find the swelling goes down faster if you stop soaking it because it starts to sort itself out and the skin gets a lot less dry and irritated.

Man, I have the same problem. I'm been lusting over so much on there. My original spending limit was $30 there, just quickly came up to $40. Now I'm pushing for $70. I had a window open of about 10 different pairs I wanted there, and just closed them today. But! Tonight we are going to a super fancy piercing place to pick up donations, and maybe I'll get a nice pair there! If not, I am going out of town on Sunday, so maybe something then.

So guys, I have finally chosen my artist to do my Alice tattoo.  Not only is she awesome but she is adorable!

http://www.sacredskin.com.au/Sacred%20Skin%20-%20ARTISTS%20-%20WILLA-MAE%20HOLNESS.html

Her tattoos of the Mark Ryden piece, The Scream and the spine are what really did it for me.  Because I usually don't know what the original image people were trying to tattoo looks like I don't know how well they did it.  But I am familiar with that Ryden image and The Scream and I am pretty stoked.  She is in Brisbane too, so not far away!  I am waiting to hear back about a quote and hopefully she will be able t fit me in soon!  We have a few weeks off trianing coming up so I want to get in then because I won't be able to skate with my fresh tattoo!

My girlfriend told me she thought I'd look good with stretched lobes but I am skeptical, I do not think they would suit me at all. What do you think QC Forum? Try to answer based on whether they would actually suit me, not just "OMG STRETCHED LOBES ARE SO GREAT".

Also, how much maintenance are they? I'm not the best at healing and I'm just pretty lazy in general.

If your face was a little thinner I would say go for it, as it stands your face is a little too round for stretches as they will just make your face more round. Small ones would be ok but anything you can put your forefinger through is too big.
