So, for those who do not know, the gods who go under the name Massive Attack are planning to release a new album next year. On the MAforum, 3D himself said that he had been experimenting with a gothic soul-style, wich makes me think of their (according to me) best album Mezzanine. Mezzanine is the BEST ALBUM EVAR in my opinion, and I was a bit dissapointed with 100th Window.
Its a good album, but instead of Mezzanines dublike groove and slow hiphop-drumms I found prozac-tasting electronica. Good, Antistar, Smalltime Shotaway and Bytterfly Cought are some of the best stuff Ive ever heard, but its not enough to beat Mezzanine.
Anyway, share your hopes and feares of how the new album will be like! I mostly hope that it features the same dark grooviness that Mezzanine had.

Didn't everyone except 3D leave before 100th Window? If it's still just him, I'd assume it's gonna be more like that than the old stuff.
I never really loved Massive Attack that much anyway. Their best album is No Protection, and that's because the Mad Professor remixed it with the awesome dub styles.

You thought 100th Window was bad? You should hear the Unleashed OST.

Had all of about two nice moments on it.

I liked 100th Window but I don't have anything to compare it to, since I haven't heard anything else. As nearly everyone I love Teardrop and I even think my big brother has Mezzanine, but I never got around to listen to it. Mostly because he was one of those seclusive big brothers and not the "I'll smack you one and then I'll whoop your ass in soccer" type.

Mushroom is back? I thought he was gone for good.

Now if Tricky and Nellee come back, I'll eat my hat.

Seriously, though, after 100th window I am not expecting much.

Think I'll go listen to "Five Man Army" again...

I didn't like Blue Lines, either. I own Mezzanine and usually have to be in the right mood to tolerate it past the first five tracks. Massive Attack have always seemed over-hyped to me, although they have made some gorgeous songs.

100th Window was really bad. Mezzanine was really good. I like some some stuff off Blue lines and Protection (in particular Unfinished Sympathy).

Can't say I'm looking forward to any new stuff particularly. Everyone knows trip-hop is dead!

I am stunned that there are people who don't like Blue Lines.  It's one of the defining albums of the '90s!  I guess not everyone came of age during that decade, though, and thus don't have the same sentimental attachment to it as myself.

Also, I agree with MilkmanDan: No Protection is ace.  On the other hand, Protection itself is a bit duff.

Blue Lines and Mezzanine are great albums. They should have stopped there, IMHO.

I agree with Inlander, though... The Bristol sound played a defining role in my musical taste.

I like Blue Lines, but I can understand why others don't. It's a very understated album, and their are some tracks on their that don't do it for me either.

It's a decent hip-hop album. I just prefer their more electronic stuff.

Well then, it could be alright after all. It would be even better if they got the Mad Professor back again as as well. Both Mezzanine and Blue Lines have their moments, but they always struck me as really over-hyped meh. In fact, the whole trip-hop phonemena struck me as over-hyped meh (depending on what you refer to as trip-hop).

Well, okay, honestly I dont know if EVERYONE are back, but most of em ^~.
A musicgenre cant die, thats just stupid. I mean, sure, the band who does can all suddenly turn bad, but that doesnt mean it cant get good again? And yeah by the way, I got the Unleashed, or Danny the Dog as the European version is called, and no its not good for listening. But its very much of a soundtrack, the songs on it that are actually more like real songs are good, but its mostly just typical soundtrack-stuff.
And I did like 100th Window, not just as much as Mezzanine ^~.
