Seriously, this afternoon, all afternoon, my head was just thinking over and over and over "It is about time to start listening to the Legendary Pink Dots". I really should too. But I never do. Their name just eternally lurks in my subconious.

I also seem to get this with Man... or Astroman?, Dinosaur Jr., and the Flaming Lips.

Any of you all get this? And with who?

I always want to properly listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor but time constraints don't usually allow it.

Oddly enough I'm listening to The Legendary Pink Dots right now. I reccomend going to Their Website and getting the live in Burlington 89 MP3s. There are also lots of LPD MP3s lurking around dusty corners of the net like epitonic. If this is about bands you keep meaning to check out/buy albums by but don't:

@soak: I'd recommend setting aside 15 minutes for "Dead Flag Blues". It's a great way to start.

Also, Bob Dylan, The Residents, Cornelius, Lightning Bolt (me too!), Gordian Knot, and Sun Ra.

Good albums to start with:

Bob Dylan: The Times The Are a Changin, or Blood on the Tracks, IMO, although you'll get different answers from different people.

The Residents: Probably the best to start with would be their latest album, animal lover (You can get it at www.ralphamerica.com)

Sun Ra: There really is no acessible album for this guy, but I'd reccomend starting with Other Planes of There, since that's what I first got.

Thats just kinda how i listen to music, ill get a new cd listen to it foe some extended amount of time, then decide on a new cd, i expect to stop this habit when i get an ipod, again, for the third time, stupid ipod, breaking all the time...

but right now its the toadies.

Blood On The Tracks is probably his most universal work, yeah - however I think that Bringing It All Back Home is the perfect Dylan album to start with. The first side is him inventing rock music; the second half is old-school protest music with just him, a guitar and a wheezing harmonica.

I must concur. Start with Loveless, there's many a reason it's considered a classic.

My fall back band for a while has been Rilo Kiley, and Sufjan a little more recently. Talking Heads flit in and out of my thoughts quite a lot as well.

I've listened to about half of Loveless now, and my initial reaction is "Holy wow! Wish I had listened sooner!" I think it will take a closer inspection to determine my exact feelings, but it feels good to have something new to listen to.

Yeah, thanks for helping motiviate me. I listened to some Rilo Kiley this summer, and I liked it, but none of the songs really stuck with me. Maybe that is just because I was exposed to a ton of music at the same time? Actually, I was with a fellow QC reader, and I tried to make mental notes to check out some of the bands she showed me, but now I can't remember any of them.

I've been meaning to give the Decemberists a closer listening for a while, since I ripped one of their CDs from my brother's collection, but I while I've listened to them a couple times, I haven't gotten into them yet. Any suggestions for starting points on Her Majesty?

Also, Mogwai and GYBE or GY!BE or GYBE! or whatever.

There are a couple bands that I would like to listen to but never got around to it:
On The Decemberists I would that Red Right Ankle and Los Angeles, I'm Yours are good starting points as well as The Soldiering Life. However I would say there is only one way to listen to Her Majesty; from the opener to the closer.

Come - the allmusic reviews really intrigued me and I have to give them a listen.

Cocteau Twins - I have heard the songs Heaven or Las Vegas and Lorelei and that really doesn't cut it.

Einstürzende Neubauten - I have heard Perpetuum Mobile but I would like to hear their 80's stuff like Kollaps.

Mazzy Star - I have no very good reason except the cool name.

And let us not forget about the epic that is "I Was Meant For the Stage". But Her Majesty is certainly to be listened to all the way through; there's not a bad song in the batch.

Mogwai - Rock Action. Sine Wave is an amazingly awesome song. And the best part is that it sneaks up on you, so as you finish the song you finally realize "holy shit, was that what I thought I heard?" and play it again.

GY!BE: Life Yr Skinny Fists, and Slow Riot for Zero Kanada (EP) are mad win. Actually, I've been meaning to get more GY!BE, so any recommendations would be awesome.

As for the thread topic...Overseer - Supermoves. God-DAMN that song rocks. Was playing in my head all day.
