Favorite Musical
Maui:
Seanbatemans rant was pretty damn funny even though i like Rocky Horror.
Rent movie comes out soon eh.
LeeZion:
I agree with the earlier speaker about MGM's golden age. Now THOSE were musicals. Give me The Bandwagon any day — it just barely edges Singin' In the Rain and the dialogue was written by the same people. Or The Harvey Girls, which reunited Judy Garland with Ray Bolger (The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz). Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was a lot of fun, especially the dance number that turned into a brawl. Somebody else already mentioned An American in Paris, which showcased Gene Kelly's amazing footwork. On a much more somber note, there's Carousel. How can a poll of favorite musicals possibly be valid if it excludes anything and everything Rogers and Hammerstein ever did?

In other words, how DARE you?
Earlier this year, while babysitting someone else's kid, my then-girlfriend and I took him to see a high-school production of Carousel. Since he was only 5, we both expected him to get bored after a while. So we brought along crayons, a coloring book and other goodies to keep him occupied, telling him in advance that any time he wanted, he was allowed to do something else. But damned if that kid sat absolutely still, wide-eyed, for the whole three hours as this spectacle unfolded before him.
And yet when it was over, we couldn't get a word out of him.
"How did you like it?"
"It was OK."
"What was your favorite part?"
"Uh, I dunno."

Screw Rodgers and Hammerstein, Rodgers and Hart is where it's at!
Duchess Tapioca:
I like The Pirates of Penzance, Little Shop of Horrors and Into the Woods.
...Also, Gene Kelly has sexy magic shoes.
