But I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning can't really be a day record. In comparison, it definitely feels more like one than Digital Ash but the fact that the disc is pretty much a journey through the night doesn't lend itself well to your idea. Especially with closer "Road to Joy", where they finally come to the title line.
I do see how they could be considered a double disc. They just represent such opposite styles that they seemed to both be part of a singular, calculating effort, which would signify a double disc to me.
But, anyways, here's a prototype of what my list may look like when 2005 comes to a close.
1. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
2. Marianne Faithful - Before the Poison
A great vocalist, and PJ Harvey's involvement makes this one of my favorites.
3. Socalled - The Socalled Seder
Irresistble jewish hip-hop. Infectious.
4.The New Pornographers - Twin cinema
5. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
6. Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
7. Eels - Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
8. Wolf Parade - Apologies to Queen Mary
9. Novillero - Aim Right For the Hole in Their Lives
Anything off Mint Records is always a safe bet, especially this mix of Winnipegers, featuring the old vocalist from the original Canadian bass-and-drums duo, Duotang.
10. M.I.A. - Arular
