This could conceivably be in the QC Discussion section, but I'm going to tip it over here.

I notice Jeph seems to know when things have leaked, and so do a lot of other people on this board. This leads me to believe that a lot of people use some BitTorrent sites to get them. I don't know if it's cool to talk about which we use, but how many people use BT sites?

I use one that I think usually has great quality.

For a part two, do you feel you buy more or less after starting this sort of thing. I personally buy at least 3 times more, but it could just have to do with a better cash flow.

(Let's stay off the topic of whether or not this is a cool practice, downloading music.)

I use it a lot for video, but I have a hard time finding sites that provide the kind of music I'm interested in.  Honestly filesharing hasn't affected my purchasing habits all that much because I don't have the disposable income to buy a ton of CDs.  There are certainly plenty of artists that I heard through the internet, then went out and got their CD though.  The difference is that I was exposed to music I wouldn't have heard otherwise, so when I have the cash to make a purchase, it goes to a good cause.  More importantly (I think) there are a lot of artists who I heard on the internet then went to see live.

Yes I do, and I am so much more into music now. I would definantly go see bands live that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of. Also, when I get money, I am more likely to buy CDs.

I use one frequently. Though, not usually for music..
I buy CD's all the time, I'll buy a CD before something necessary on most days.

The first rule of BitTorrent is you do not talk about BitTorrent.  Candy is a much safer discussion.

Having said that, I have a bit of a sweet tooth, and I have a number of options open to me to cure it, depending on what I'm craving.  Some of these are specialty shops though.

I can't use bittorrent here at Uni, but at home I was all over it. Music and TV Shows only. Purchasing wise, I spent all my money on music before BT, and I still do. I have more money to spend now though.

I'm on a few music-related bittorrent sites, and they're pretty good for testing stuff out or checking out new bands.

It usually goes like: find an album by a band I've hard good things about . download it and listen > if i'm into it, go out and buy some of their other stuff, and catch a show if i can

As to whether i have increased my consumption of CDs after starting on bittorrent, perhaps -- not sure, but i'm definitely not buying less these days.

At school we have an on campus DC++ hub. There are designated people who go home every weekend with an external hard drive to bring back requests they try to get off of Bit Torrent and IRC rooms.

The school shut off my room's internet for using Bit Torrent without even telling me. Communication problem right there.

That second to last speck of dirt looks like it should be prefaced with a "the" and probably end with a .org.

I'm on both too, but I can never find anything great on indietorrents that I can't find on Oink, so I don't use it much.

I think that I might waive my 'buy all your music dammit' policy for the next few weeks so I can muster up some tunes for leavers. Kai, I thank yee for sharing the tools of sharing.

I usually go with pay downloads for music, but there are some that arn't available.  If i can't, i'll usually head over to isohunt or torrentspy.

Indietorrents and oink any good?
Anyone spare an invite for either?
