He even did songs with sum 41 actually. That doesn't make them any better. Trent reznor did a song with bowie, that doesn't mean nin is suddenly good (from my perspective anyway. I dislike nin) Dave Grohl wants to work with Joss Stone..her music's still shit...

my friend and i found new kids videos... hanging tough, live.

"los angeles, i don't think you're tough enough"

... we learned all the dances. this was like, a month ago. i am not ashamed.

and when i was really young i liked boy bands and everything, but i don't even count that. those were out of my cd collection a long time ago.

and yeah, i do own a thursday cd, maybe that's my most embarrassing. but i seem to be more embarrassed by my classic rock phase. don't worry, i never liked the stones. i was just a bit too in love with jimmy page and bob dylan.

Oh yeah, speaking of Jesus: my first concert was Audio Adrenaline. The Christian rock band. Not even kidding, I was in my born-again Christian phase and they were almost a rock band. To this day I tell people my second concert was my first (Mighty Mighty Bosstones, probably lose indie cred points for that as well but I <3 ska).

I mean, Kenny G still beats that, but AA is pretty awful.

Ever listen to Newsboys? I have a greatest hits album by them that I actually still listen to once in a while. I think they're much better than Audio Adrenaline, if you're considering the field of christian rock.

Thanks Luke, but I tried most of the mid-90s Christian rock scene already. I liked AA a little better than Newsboys, if I remember right, but ultimately I ended up at the Tooth & Nail catalog and that ended up leading me out of Christian music for the most part. Living Sacrifice and Zao somehow got me listening to Slayer and Amon Amarth.

Some purchases that I'm ashamed of?

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dreams. Seriously.
Mindless Self Indulgence, but I only bought one of those because a friend said it was amazing. He is not really nearly as good of a friend.

But aside from that, I'm really not ashamed of my music at all. I somehow skipped the whole "Shitty teenage music" phase of my life, bought a Primus album, and then proceeded to move towards music that didn't suck.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

If it features the song he did for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack ("Ninja Rap"), then you have no reason to be ashamed.

Actually, there would be just such an overabundance of irony connected with owning that CD that you really should feel no shame whatsoever as long as people don't realise you bought it when it came out.

Hehe... yeah the Ninja Rap song was pretty sweet. Go ninja go ninja go!

N*sync - no strings attached
The first Britney Spears and Christian Agulara c.ds

in my defense they were christmas gifts from my grandmother but, that still doesn't excuse me from listening to them constantly and knowing all the words to every song on those cds. XD

most recent embaressment was 3 years ago when i was fourteen and I bought Korn-issues for $7 at a second hand store *shudder*

no (especially not dr dre actually. screw everything he did after nwa (as far as i've heard it anyway)

Good artists (in my opinion) don't lose credit by working with bad artists (e.g. Dave Grohl, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, John Cale)
Bad artsists (in my opinion) don't gain credit by working with good artists (e.g. sum 41, dr. dre, pharell, Trent Reznor)

Trent *did* work with Luke Vibert.  Which has to be worth something, in some existential cosmic sort of way.  The creators of "Pretty Head Machine" and "I Love Acid" combine to form...something really evil that will expand uncontrollably and eventually turn the enitrety of the earth into a single throbbing superorganism.

And that'll be hella cool when it happens.

And all other entries are child's play compared to the following. I had MORE THAN ONE N'Sync CD at the age of 13. So I win.

What the hell guys? You're all way behind the times.
I got that kind of crap when I was twelve. By the time I was 14 I was listening to Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Sex Pistols and NOFX. Some might argue that's just as bad but they don't know how much fun NOFX is.
I'm 18 now by the way so I suspect we're about the same age.
Current embarrasing CDs? NONE! We have a record store in Auckland that buys second hand CDs for a decent price so the bad ones are all long gone.  Yussssssssssssss.
I don't care how "bad" NOFX is... 'She's Nubs' is an incredibly fun song.

On NOFX: anybody who writes a song that makes fun of stupid 12-year-old kids who are all like OMG LOLOLZ ANARCHY ("Murder the Government") can't be that bad. 'Cause I mean, if you're willing to give up that big a percentage of America's record buyers just to make fun of them, you're pretty cool in my book.

My Aunt gave me the Sabrina The Teenaged Witch Soundtrack and one of those CDs with the various crappy pop songs (like NOW and such) when I was eleven.

I listened to one song on the Sabrina one over and over, but that's the only one I listened to at all. I only scanned the song list on the other CD.

I can't remember what song it was, but it was bad.

No one should really feel ashamed for listening to "uncool" stuff when they were younger.  I mean, how active were you in finding music?  I wasn't active at all and just listened to the radio when I was in grade school (<3 MC Hammer, C&C Music Factory, Metallica, GnR, and MJ before the black or white single)

All this music made you who you are now and if you like who you are, the music you use to listen to shouldn't get you down or make you feel bad. heh, maybe I'm overthinking this topic.

oh yeah, you guys make me feel old lol

As insightful as lofin's post was, it doesn't change the fact that I wouldn't be caught dead listening to that stuff anymore.

But my very first CD was Smashmouth's "AstroLounge," and I still have/love it to this day. I am not embarrassed about that CD in the least. Same deal with my second CD, the Offspring's "Americana."

Disturbed - The Sickness
Disturbed - Believe
Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists
Godsmack - Godsmack
Godsmack - Awake
Godsmack - Faceless
Godsmack - The Other Side
KoRn - KoRn
KoRn - Untouchables

Orgy - Vapour Transmission

Although I'm not ashamed, because I fucking love those discs to death, so really, I shouldn't be posting it in this thread. Rapless nu-metal for teh win!

Once I got made fun of by random strangers for walking around with a Godsmack record, but I wasn't really bothered because it was actually a Sunny Day Real Estate record.

Also, embarrassing for different reasons: I bought the first Beck 7" and tape on eBay and paid exorbitantly because I was young and stupid and didn't have anything else to spend my money on. The tape ran me $250 and the 7" was $115. To add insult to injury, I bought the record from James Bertram (of 764-HERO) and only recognized him as a bass player on One Foot In the Grave. I suppose I can never show my face on the Internet in Washington again.

Spinless, I did the same thing. $20 for ISH instead of like $12 for Dookie and Warning.

Then again, at least I'm not the Green Day 'diehard fan' I met one day who said, with absolutely NO SHAME in his voice, that there were no such Green Day albums as Dookie and Warning.

He got yelled at when he was checking out, apparently he told the clerk that "some crazy guy was talking about these Green Day albums that don't exist" and the clerk was like, "RIGHT, I AM NOT SELLING YOU THIS NOR AM I SELLING YOU AMERICAN IDIOT."

I was so embarrassed taking it up to the clerk at Sunrise that I buried it underneath Mogwai, Al Green, and the Decemberists.  On the bright side, I got 3 kickass records and one guilty pleasure!
