Does anyone like Elliot Smith's music?

Praeserpium Machinarum:
I have only heard In a Basement on a Hill and it was very good. Though it was a bit odd listening to it knowing that he (presumably) killed himself not long before. By the way did he like Beatles? Because I thought I heard a bit inspiration from them on Basement.

unicornsaresupersexy:
Well the thing of it is, I live in a completely brainwashed town.  The media controls almost everyone's thoughts.  So its incredibly rare to like good music.

That is actually a very common observation when it comes to Elliott Smith (the Beatles thing). I can definitely hear it, too. If you liked Basement, you should try to get your hands on a copy of some of his earlier stuff like XO or Either/Or.

Kid Modernist:
His s/t debut on Kill Rock Stars is his best, in my opinion.

sjbrot:
When he was recording In a Basement Under a Hill, he was actually trying to emulate the Beatles' White Album. He wanted it to be a two-disc affair with a natural progression through out. That's what I understood from alot of the articles around the release, at least.
