Stifled Dreams:
I think he seems like he'd be a nice person! I also think that doing the whole animation thing is kinda cool, I'm sure it will be smooth. I just won't pay for it, though; I only buy things on the internet that I really, really want.
Rauko:
I was a huge fan when he first started up. I stumbled onto his website the day his second comic came out. I followed it for a while and liked his stuff and I had a really good t-shirt idea. I e-mailed it too him and never got a response back. One day he had a news post along the lines of "some user submitted this idea and I liked it." It was obvious that it was my idea well... because it was nearly word for word what I had sent him. I sent him another e-mail letting that said thanks and that I was the guy that sent in the design idea. His reply was "oh, that was you." After that he never replied to any of my e-mails. I wasn't expecting any money or a t-shirt or anything like that. A thank you, an acknowledgement, something like that would have been nice. It was one his most popular shirt designs and he kept it up until he overhauled his merch section and took all the old designs back.
I put it all behind me and stopped reading his comic. A couple of my friends had started a comic and wanted to make an online group of comic artists sort of like Dailyfree Press before DFP existed. I suggested they ask Tim because his comic was catching on and maybe they could get some traffic. They chatted back in forth and the entire time Tim was a complete asshole to me and my friends. When he found out that I was helping those guys out he stopped talking to any of us. I refuse to have anything to do with him now.
Sideways:
I've e-mailed Gabe & Tycho a few times, for different reasons. I've never received a reply. I don't think that they're dickheads because of that. They get over a million people visiting their site a day.
Tim gets around 200,000 people daily.
You're lucky to have received a reply at all.
I'm not trying to take sides, I'm just saying that when someone gets such a massive volume of correspondence... condemning them for not replying to your specific e-mail/letter/whatever is pretty ignorant.
Now, when someone says the person was an 'asshole' when dealing with other people, I like to ask for some examples.
I've dealt with Bryan Adams (Canadian Musician) a few times. He's a real asshole.
When I tell people this, I don't just leave it at that. I explain "WHY" he is an asshole. The why, in this particular case, is because he treats everyone as being below him, he's a nasty, foul-mouthed and caustic individual, and he throws fucking temper-tantrums when he doesn't get his way.
There, that explains my statement of him being an asshole.
Something you guys have failed to do with regards to Tim.
instead there was the light insinuation that he may have bared himself to his forum... but no explanation as to what happened...
Then there was the 'He didn't even say thank you' which does seem kind of dickish, but if that's all the evidence there is of him being an asshole... then it's not much.
Rauko:
Did you read my post...
I exchanged dozens of e-mails and I've talked to my friend who made the ony webcomic talked to him on the phone once. He's given me nothing but grief from day one, before he had 200k readers. Most of my stuff went down when he had a couple hundred, probably less.
I try not to hold grudges against people and two date I've got two. One is with Tim and the other with someone who tried to steal money from me pretending that a close friend of mine was in trouble.
Cpt.Fantastic:
Have you ever visited the CAD forums?
It was a better place BEFORE he banned almost all of the main posters.
I still read CAD because the story is kinda picking up again but it is not as good as it used to be.
