Also, many a mall emo bands are totally laughable, and at the same time cryable.

They are funny! But simultaneously awesome too. As are the Polysics, who make me smile with glee more than laugh raucously.
No i haven't. Is he/she/it any good? I'm going to assume yes and you seem to have a kickass taste in everything so far.

He's a VERY dead-pan Scotish comedian/performer, who does music as well. I'm pretty sure he's still alive but he's pretty old. Some of his stuff is just plain hilarious while some of his other stuff is just plain touching.
For hilarious get 'Where The River Bends' and his stand up type stuff.
For touching get 'Little Cosmos'.
Did I mention he's deadpan? I mean REALLY deadpan. He makes Jack Dee look like Plus Tech Squeeze-box.
