top 20 records of 2005
Dara:
solid list m8
Catatonik:
Pelican, Opeth, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene I have all heard.
Illinoise is great, Ghost Reveries is immense, Takk was awesome, the others I am up and down on. Broken Social Scene I dislike. It's just not well constructed music IMO.
greenMonkey:
The stuff I've heard off that list is pretty good. Takk... was good, though not close to being as awesome as Agaetis Byrjun. I'm hopefully getting Von for Christmas, any thoughts?
Oh and The Mariners Revenge song kicks ass.
pat101:
I'm pretty cool with that list, I haven't heard it ALL like the metalish stuff. I'm just not ready to make that leap yet. Though my list is quite similar. I think Hold Steady should be higher, but than again Hold Steady should be higher on all lists no matter how high it is.
Inlander:
Am I the only person this year who was underwhelmed by Picaresque? It had some fine songs on it, but a great album for me is one that not only has good songs, but which unites them into a cohesive whole. Picaresque didn't do that for me - unlike Castaways and Cut-outs.
(Yes, I know, comparing band's latest release to band's debut album - bad Harry! Naughty!)
