The only show I regret missing as much as Gigantour was the one my friend went to a year and a half ago. Iron Maiden with Dio and Motorhead opening. That show would have fucking ROCKED.

I'm still shooting myself over missing a ton of concerts; Les Claypool/Gabby La La, Gabby La La again, The Aquabats, GWAR, DeVotchKa, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Although that show? Yeah, it fucking takes the cake.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

To be fair, I wasn't really into any of those bands at the time.

Claypool is playing here in a few weeks, but tickets are like 60 fucking dollars. Fuck that noise.

Seriously? Damn, the ones here were a good 15, and even that's slightly pricy for me.

I think it's because he's playing in a pretty big venue. But yeah, I like Primus and all, but no way am I paying that much.

in the past 15 months i have seen the following shows:
--the weakerthans with Murder by Death and Lucero
--rilo kiley with now it's overhead and tilly and the wall
--green day with new found glory and hot rod circuit (shut up, i love green day)
--the queers with some shitty shitty bands whose names i forgot
--the presidents of the united states of america with a shitty baltimore area bar band
--the decemberists with some woman who was dull as shit.
--rilo kiley with the brunettes and some band with a dude from superchuink in it who bored me
--They Might Be Giants at a free show in philly, I missed the openers.
--rilo kiley with mike runion and the elected
--they might be giants at a free show in NJ with JOAN JETT, AMAZING.
--the presidents of the united states of america with Pleaseeasaur who may have been insane
--the decemberists with cass mccombs or whatever his name is. he bored me, so i drank too much.
--bright eyes with feist and the magic numbers

This was actually a pretty slow year for shows as i was unemployed, bu rest-assured I saw many a local show since I always get roped into being the merch girl or watching the doors.

Bright Eyes and Rilo Kiley in the Glasgow Uni Union Debating chambers was awesome and then The Arcade Fire and Final Fantasy played a few months after that and owned the previous show. Im going to see Statistics tomorrow, hopefully.

The best show of the year however,I can already call. The basement show I am putting on on New Years Eve will rock the casbah.

Heh. I saw this one Luxembourgish country cover band playing at the U.S. Embassy's 4th of July picnic. It was HILARIOUS! You have not lived until you've seen 4 guys with heavy Luxembourgish accents singing Alan Jackson. The best part about it was that they're actually really good at what they do.

And they were really nice, too, I asked if I could play with them on the drums for "Tequila Sunrise" by the Eagles and they were like, "Hey, sure, sit yourself right down on that there drum throne." FUN ^__^

In the past year I have see.

Corb Lund, who was brilliant, but the annoying indie rock girl and her acoustic guitar who opened was exceedingly bad.

Therion, opened by Soulscar, both of whom did an awesome job in a shitty venue.

Strapping Young Lad. As my fourth tim seeing them ,it's still \m/

Missed Gigantour, SOunds of the Underground, Gwar and Clutch :(

Excluding some local shows the last show I saw was Iron Maiden with nevolution. I do love Maiden and all, but nevolution was better. Well, maybe not in terms of songwriting, but I was really dissapointed with Maidens live performance.

Moral of the story; Check out nevoulution, you can download their EP here http://www.thenevolution.com/

Some of my favorite concerts were mewithoutYou, Against Me!, and Q and not U (twice!) who were my favorite band.

Q and not U put on an excellent live show, do they not??  I saw them once this past summer and kick myself for having missed their farewell shows here in my/their fair city.

Possiblly the best 2 shows I went to this year. Sucks you had to miss it :(

Live Bands! Where have you been?

I've not been, overall, to very many GOOD gigs. I've been to a LOT of gigs where I basically just went to get pissed and mosh, or where I went for just one band on the billing (examples: Going to see Trivium just for 3 Inches of Blood, Pitchshifter and Minus just for SikTh, the awful Dillinger Escape Plan and Poison the Well just for the awesome Ephel Duath, and so forth).

By the overall list, I look like some retarded core kiddie. I'll star the ones I either went for or liked/thought were respectable:

3 Inches of Blood *
80's Match-Box B-Line Disaster
Alice Cooper*
Apocalyptica*
Ariel-X* (I loved them, but everyone else thinks they're awful. Either it's the fact I was stoned off my face, or I just have superior taste to everyone I know. I mean, none of my friends even liked the fucking Inbreds!)
Atreyu
Awkward Silence
The Black Maria
The Bled*
Breed 77
Brigade
Bullet For My Valentine
Caliban*
Chimaira
Cradle of Filth*
Day of the Fight
Degrassi
The Dillinger Escape Plan
DragonForce*
Ephel Duath*
Fallen
Four Man Riot*
Girlschool*
Hatebreed* (Retarded hardcore can be fun live. I don't actually play Hatebreed at home or even really know any of their songs. Same goes for Caliban and The Bled. Alcohol probably helped in all these occasions as well)
Hell Is For Heroes
Hentai Babies
Heterodox*
Hondo Maclean
I-(defi)*
In Flames x2 * (first time, they were shite the second time, I hate their new material.)
The Inbreds*
Infrasound*
Inspector Offensive
Kids Near Water
Lacuna Coil*
Mastodon*
Mendeed
Minus
Mista Mushroom
Motorhead*
My Chemical Romance* (It was my first gig too, no lie. It WAS before they got big though.)
Overlord*
Pennies Dropped
Pitchshifter
Poison the Well
Profane*
Queen Adreena*
Rammstein*
Roadsidehopescene
Screaming Phoenix*
Sentenced to Rebirth*
SikTh*
Slayer*
Slipknot
Stiff Little Fingers*
Still Remains
Sucioperro
Syrafex*
System of a Down* (no shame. SOAD are part of my childhood)
Terra Deforma
Trivium
Twisted Sister*
UK Subs*
Vallen Brosa
Vectis 23
We Will Be Pilots (actually the worst band in the universe)

There were some really really good shows this year in the Bay Area, but no live event matched the bliss May at the SF Independent, when we were treated to Boredoms, Melt Banana, and Erasure performing all within the space of seven days.  I can die happy.

Other great shows:
-Junior Boys/Russian Futurists/Caribou @ Bottom of the Hill

-M83 @ Bimbo's 365

-Arcade Fire @ Great American Music Hall / Coachella / Warfield
Gotta say, was not an Arcade Fire fan at all, but their live shows have most definitely convinced me

-Phoenix @ Great American Music Hall

-Olivia Tremor Control @ Great American Music Hall

-The Fucking Champs @ Bottom of the Hill

-Mixel Pixel @ Bottom of the Hill

-Guitar Wolf @ Bottom of the Hill
Just a few weeks before Basswolf died, no less.

-Daedelus @ Hemlock

I have seen an assload of shows.  In the past mostly basement or small club punk/hardcore gigs, lately more high profile stuff.  Here are some rad bands I've seen this year.

3 Inches of Blood
Aborted
All Those Opposed
Behemoth
Black Sabbath
Cephalic Carnage
Corrosion of Conformity
Cryptopsy
Danzig
Darkbuster
Deathamphetamine
Doosh Bags
Dropkick Murphys (disappointing every time I see them)
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
King Diamond
Mastodon
Megadeth
Motörhead (best show ever?  probably)
Napalm Death (I love ND, but I wasn't expecting much from them.  Big mistake, they absolutely fucking destroyed.)
Nile
Obituary
Strapping Young Lad
Suffocation (Oh.  My.  Fucking.  God!)
Toxic Narcotic
Vader
Varukers

I live in Massachusetts and have for my entire life.  My problems with the current incarnation of DKM are as follows: "Do or Die" is their best album, hands down, nothing else is as good, and they don't play enough off of it, last time I saw them they didn't even play "Never Alone" which is a fucking sin.  Also, they're a band who do GREAT covers, especially of Oi songs, and I've yet to see them play a single one ("Wild Rover" doesn't count).  The Irish thing is a gimmick, they aren't the Pogues and they never will be.  14 year old girls and streetpunk... like, what?  Finally, seeing Al Barr sing for DKM just reminds me that the Bruisers are not around anymore, and since the Bruisers are one of the sickest bands ever, it breaks my heart.

I must state that I like the Dropkick Murphys, and I find their shows entertaining, but they never rise to my expectations, they always play to the lowest common denominator.

Quick note to ExiledSmarmy: do you go to any other MA punk shows?  For example, bands I mentioned such as Darkbuster and Toxic Narcotic blow the doors off of every place they play.  Also Slapshot, but they don't play live more than 2 or 3 times a year, tops.

Best live show I've ever seen was iron Maiden...purely because of the spectacle.  However Howard's Alias were amazing, UK Subs always manage to get the crowd going, Stiff Little Fingers were awesome.  Status Quo and Susie Quatro were average and apparently whilst my mother was pregnant with me she went to see Pink Floyd.  I think that explains a few things.
