Help good music beat bad music!

Ok, so at my school we've set up a radio station. It's pretty nifty, we've got over £6000 worth of equipment thanks to a grant by the school governers, but the dealio is we've run out of money. We are still getting the main chart hits from somewhere, but we have absolutely no money left to be able to purchase 'out there' music: stuff that doesn't enter the top 20.

Since it's only an internal station with a view to local area broadcast, we aren't super strict about getting music. The rule is: no illegally downloaded stuff, and you must own the CD before you add it to the archives, and it must be in WAV format.

So here's the kicker: I'm also broke. All the music i own is downloaded via torrents, and in mp3 format. What i'm looking for are some absolutely kick ass individuals who own these CD's legally to rip them into WAV format and send them to me so i can add them to the rosta. Send me a PM or email if you're able to help at: [email protected] . I'm also available on msn at the same address.

I can't pay you anything, but hopefully it'll be payment enought to know you're getting some awesome underrated music out to some kids saturated with chart music pap.

Here's what I'm after:

1.The Decemberists - Picaresque
2.The Decemberists -Her Majesty
3.The Decemberists- Castaways and Cutouts
4.The Faint- Danse Macabre
5.Clap Your Hands Say Yeah- Clap Your Hands
6.Wolf Parade- Apologies To The Queen Mary
7.hot Hot Heat - Elevator
8.Magic Numbers- Magic Numbers
9.Mountain Goats- The Sunset Tree
10.The Polyphonic Spree- The beginning stages of...

Bold denotes cd's needs ASAP.
thanks for reading guys!
Also Mods, please take this down if I'm breaking rules or anything

"I blue myself!"

Go Arrested Development.

anyways. Do they check if it's illegally downloaded? Or could you just fib it? I'd just go for fib it.

Also: Your list of music really needs a little variety, IMO. Jazz. or something. BUt then again, I like my radio eclectic.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

"If i may slip off my actor pants and pull my analrapist stocking over my head..."
Go arrested.

The idea is that if someone suddenly turned up and checked what we had on the system, we would just rush out and buy the albums to prove that we owned them all along .But d/l'd mp3's are pretty easy to tell their origin, apparently.

Also we need the higher quality WAV files provide. Otherwise, i'd definately fib it.

Sweet, pm email or hit me up on msn.

also, the show I'm doing is me and two other guys. They're catering for the other stuff. I'm just getting hold of the stuff I personally would like to play. We have a starting database of about 1000 new and old songs.

Alright, so none of my sources have any of these in FLAC/WAV/other lossless formats, but they do have them in really high bitrate mp3s. Don't know if you want em or not.

Are they straight CD rips or stuff that's been downloaded via somewhere?

We can only have stuff thats been taken directly from a cd.
If it is, that would be awesome.

I've got that Faint album you were looking for.  How do I get the tunes to you, though?

If you are interested in expanding the station to include wierd electronic sounds or face melting metal tunes, I can hook you up with those, too.

(You see to have indy rock/pop covered pretty well already)

it is, but if it's a direct cd rip, it'll look like we ripped it ourselves straight onto the system. then when they ask to see the cd to prove it, i just rush to the shops and pick up a copy.

downloaded copies on the other hand will have a digital trail of some sort.

If I were in the same country I could get you Modest Mouse. The school would probably frown upon it though. Do they censor any of your music?

Why not just get iTunes, which you can use to convert files you download to m4a files, which is the same sort of file you get when you rip a CD using iTunes.

You should try converting 320 MP3s you get off of torrents to WAVs. That would work.

Which is the method I was thinking of, but whatever.

I'm still baffeld by the fact that people still don't use BitTorrent and download their music song by song.

I'm to lazy to bother figuring out how to use BitTorrent.  When I bother to do that, and find a decent torrent, I'm sure that's all I'll do.

Torrents are amazing. About my only source of p2p for the past god knows how long. Years.

So easy, usually good rips/software, etc.

Torrent can be very unreliable, you can download a torrent, but that doesn't mean any of the seeds are active, or working, or fast enough, or correct.

Compared to p2p where nobody ever shares EVAR.

Seriously, I don't know what sites you guys are using to get your torrents, I never have any problems getting mine. Mostly because the site I use (demonoid) like, actually forces you to upload or your banned instantly.

If DC++ got into an argument with BitTorrent in a bar, it would grind a broken bottle in BT's face, kick it in the balls so hard it would have to go through puberty again, then sleep with its girlfriend, it's sister and it's mum.

Just saying.

Seriously, if you can find me torrents for any Hobb's Angel of Death/Hobb's Satan Crusade, Navicon Torture Technologies or Curse of the Golden Vampire albums, my opinion might improve, but not too much, because I already got them all off of DC++.

I find downloading song by song from soulseek faster than Bittorrent because I can never seem to get decent speeds on BT unless there's like a billion seeds, and it's much preferable to just download off someone on slsk with a 50k/s+ transfer speed

also slsk is where I got my Navicon Torture Tech :D

Ok, to answer questions in no particular order:

1) Yes the school will be kinda censoring, insofaras we (the sixth form) are in charge and have to moderate what we play (no sweary words, no overty sex-based songs) or face the wrath of the headteacher.

2) Downloading via torrents is how I get my music usually. Converting said torrented mp3's into wav's is a short term solution, but doesn't provide the high clarity a pure wav would.

3) The catch with using itunes is that the aac files are protected and so cause problems on the radio software. You also can't convert them to wav, and we've been given strict guidlines of WAV's only.

I still need all the CD's mentioned above in direct-ripped wav format, or any other lossless format that can be converted to WAV. If you're able to help, please get in touch. I also have an ftp server that they can be uploaded to for quicker transfer if you have ftp access. Please help!

Also, for all you americans with your smooth and silky accents and a microphone, we need you! If anyone can record themselves saying "The Breaktime Bash" or any variation on that theme ie. "Get your groove on with the Breaktime Bash" in your best film trailer voice, that would be awesome.
Send them to me and get mad props as well as the optunity to be a radio jingle

Well it doesn't matter to me anyway, the only song downloading I ever do these days is if there's one individual song I want and I get someone to send it to me over MSN. Otherwise I pretty much buy all my music now.
