The Ask Jeph thread
jeph:
NOTE: SKIPPING THINGS THAT CAN BE ANSWERED WITH A SIMPLE YES OR NO
--- Quote from: LukeSimm on 19 Jan 2009, 07:25 ---Heya. Got a couple of questions:
1) In regards to drawing skills, how much do you think is talent and how much do you think is practice?
2) Do you ever use your Cintiq for anything other than drawing, and if so what.
--- Luke
--- End quote ---
1) I don't know! I don't think I have any natural talent for drawing so in my case it is 100% practice.
2) Uh it is a monitor so...displaying things?
--- Quote from: DaveSangor05 on 19 Jan 2009, 12:40 ---Jeph,
If they had a Comic-Con In Oregon would you come?
I tried talking my Brother into going to San Diego Comic-Con last year but no luck. :-(
--- End quote ---
Maybe. Depends on the time of year.
--- Quote from: ALB on 19 Jan 2009, 21:10 ---Jeph,
Should we expect any huge bombshell changes in the characters' relationships or have things (aside from the weather and Dora's hair) remained pretty much at status quo ante?
--- End quote ---
I GUESS WE'LL SEE HUH
--- Quote from: Jesus166 on 24 Jan 2009, 10:07 ---Naruto Or One Piece? They are manga/anime by the way....
--- End quote ---
Ew NEITHER
(secretly reads Naruto, is ashamed)
--- Quote from: Waferman on 25 Jan 2009, 22:08 ---Jeph have you heared of Sunset Rubdown? You should hear of them.
Additionally, about how many times a week do you draw just for fun/practice?
--- End quote ---
Yes and I like one of their albums.
Doing the comic IS fun and practice! Outside of that, not as much as I should.
--- Quote from: ecstaticjoy on 02 Feb 2009, 01:39 ---Today's comic made me think of another question.
If my friend published his own super fun board game and I wanted to send you one, where would I mail it? Do you have a fan mailbox big enough for a board game?
--- End quote ---
Maybe? If it didn't suck?
--- Quote from: JReynolds on 02 Feb 2009, 07:50 ---Hi Jeph,
You have appeared as a character in at least two webcomics (Overcompensating a few times, plus a Something Positive where you were a judge at a convention costume show). Do you have a favourite walk-on appearance?
--- End quote ---
Probably the waterboarding Overcompensating strip.
--- Quote from: k on 05 Feb 2009, 23:44 ---Why is Gina Riversmith facing the "camera" instead of Sven in the last panel of this latest strip, 1334? Same question about Sven, actually.
--- End quote ---
There is no "camera," they just have their heads turned because people turn their heads sometimes.
--- Quote from: öde on 06 Feb 2009, 02:52 ---Hey Jeph, do you think you can legitimately complain about the creepiness of your fans now?
Nice Anders Loves Maria guest strip, by the way!
--- End quote ---
Yes! I mean, I DREW the friggin' cartoons having sex but you don't see ME poppin' boners or bein' all "HURRR OMG HOT!!11!" on a message board. Have some class, people
And thank you! It was fun to do.
--- Quote from: Chad K. on 06 Feb 2009, 07:53 ---Jeph-
I typically stick to the music forums on your site, and rarely venture into the comic discussion threads. When I do, I almost invariably see a new thread about why someone doesn't like a story line, or character or wishes you would get back to a different story line, etc. Is this ever discouraging or frustrating, or is it just one of those things you ultimately accept as a consequence of doing art and just move on?
--- End quote ---
Roughly a quarter of a million people read my comic every day. Nothing I do is going to please all of them, and some of them are going to whine about it on the forum. So I just ignore it. Over the years I have learned to trust myself with the story and not worry about what strangers on the internet think.
It helps that the complaints are usually pretty retarded.
--- Quote from: SirJuggles on 08 Feb 2009, 20:37 ---Sorry to imitate an answered question, but your answer was so good that it got me generally curious.
Jeph, what is the sweetest thing?
--- End quote ---
Guitar + Amp + many, many decibels.
Somethingfake:
How do you fit making music, handling merch (thought that probably less an issue now) remembering to eat and sleep and fending off those damned leprechauns trying to break into your office *and* write/draw a comic?
Tybalt:
I suspect that his office is safer than you imply.
because
Leprechauns are mythical.
pathik:
HI JEPH
long time reader, first time poster.
I was feeling exactly as Marten is in today's (1336) comic and I wanted to ask: what modest mouse song is he listening to you?
Eddurd:
OK, Jeph, been trying to contact you for a bit.
I sometimes do guest strips for Dan Mazur's "Palindramas". Recently I started drawing a strip for Dan, and it just seemed to fit the personalities of Hannelore and Winslow. I wanted to ask your permission to use them ... tried emailing you, didn't get an answer.
I finally posted the strip on the fan art forum (page 7, near the bottom). The question(s) are, would you (A) allow us to use this as a guest strip over at "Palindramas" if we provide a link back to QC :-); (B) want to use this yourself as a QC guest strip; 8-) (C) send a large burly man to my house to punch me in the head for pestering you?
Longtime fan,
Ed
