COMPLETELY disagree with it being a 'standard war movie.' I mean, the only person killed in the entire movie is killed DURING TRAINING. I loved the juxtaposition of their hard-ass training with their do-nothing war.

I didnt mean standard war film in that way. Not sure how I meant it. Tis well worth seeing.

sketchyjoe:
I thought this film was brilliant. It was perfectly paced and gave you a real sense of the isolation, boredom and frustration the troops felt.

HeroX:
i went with my gf and another couple and everyone but me hated it. but then again they were all expecting a 'standard war movie' and had even heard of full metal jacket (a fact which shocked me). i found it was very much in the same vein as full metal jacket, but was different enough to be worth watching. basically if you enjoyed full metal jacket, you'll enjoy jarhead.

Mnementh:
I still need to see this, but I suggest that everyone check out the book it was based on.  It is a true story by a veteran of the first gulf war.

cibohphobic:
The movie is very good, so long as you're not going in expecting standard war movie action-flick style fare. I'd heartily recommend the book as well, whether you've seen the movie or not, but especially if you have. It's done in a rather different style than the movie, and it's very interesting in that you almost get two different perspectives on the events in it. There's also a great deal in the book that isn't touched upon in the movie.

In summary, Jarhead = yes.
