On a small scale, I wasn't too impressed with Black Mountain's self-titled on the first few listens.  I really like it now.

He is pretty nerdy. He totally wins. I mean, introducing your girlfriend to Alan Parsons Project and Jethro Tull? That takes some guts, because she either likes them or will laugh you out of the room for being pathetic.
