I'm a big Tarkovsky fan, something that I share with (and really inherited from) my father.  Solaris is amazing, the Mirror is like a poem: you need to watch it over and over and just let the meaning reveal itself to you piece by piece.

One of my absolute favourite movies of all time is Burnt by the Sun by Nikita Mikhalkov.  Easily one of the best films of the 90s.

Oh gosh, the only Russian movies I've seen are Battleship Potemkin and Avalon.  I should expand my Russian horizons!

I...er...want to see Stalker, Brother, Solaris, and Potemkin, if that counts.

And then there's Russian Ark.  Which is nifty, if pretentious as fuck.

Man, don't know how I forgot about Russian Ark.  That was technically an astonishing achievement - but as a piece of cinema, it left me a little cold.  Although the short scene during the siege of St. Petersburg in World War II I found very moving.

I've only ever seen Nightwatch. Which was stupidly ace. Even the subtitles were sexy!

In my book, you can't go wrong with Tarkovsky or Eisenstein.
