Please don't hang me for this.....
Bastardous Bassist:
Let's see, I like to consider myself at least reasonably knowledgable about jazz, so I'll try to suggest some other things based on Miles Davis. The problem is, he changed a bit throughout his career. What Miles albums do you like? Or do you like all of them? (up through Bitches Brew, because after that it's clear that his mind is definitely too far gone from all the drugs)
TheFoolOnTheHill:
Heh heh.
I pretty much like all his stuff, albeit his early work more then his later era. (Although I think Bitches Brew is one of his best albums.)

Okay, try:
Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers
Clifford Brown
John Coltrane (earlier stuff, he tends to get pretty out there)
Art Blakey
Paul Chambers
Bill Evans
also, everyone here would probably enjoy Brad Mehldau's Live in Tokyo album. It's solo jazz piano, but with a modern twist.
And now to go to work, which I've decided is going to be my last free gig, ever (except maybe for charity, if I actually somehow manage to get famous).

Storm Rider:
Seeing as you mentioned Metallica in other threads:
If you want something a million billion gajillion times better than Metallica, pre-Load or otherwise, pick up some Testament. You'll want to start with their earlier albums, as they became steadily more death-metally as time went on. Get 'The New Order' first, because it is amazing.
